FTTH Randpark Ridge

Agreed, registered.

At this point in time telkom can't event assit with a 2MB ADSL and Bitco has no LOS. Internetlessness.

Concurred,

Been battling with a telkom 'Specialist' to sort out the quality of the adsl, all without any long lived success. Registered as well.

I managed to get a whopping 1MB line from Telkom after 3 months of waiting. I am 7km away from the exchange so it is pretty useless. I have actively been spamming Vumatel and others to start a FTTH drive for the Welridge Area.

Response from Cybersmart

"I hope this mail finds you in good spirit!

I have attached for your perusal the FTTH Brochure for perusal

The FTTH service is primarily aimed at residential complexes, housing complexes and blocks of flats. We cannot unfortunately install the FTTH service to a single dwelling unless it is in an already provisioned fibre area.

We can install the service to a residential street/suburb but to do so, a minimum guaranteed combined commitment (R10 000 depending how far you are from the closes fibre) is required from the residents taking up the service.

For installations taking place in residential suburbs/streets, the FTTH service is only available on a 24 month contract term. Once the minimum guaranteed commitment has been obtained, Cybersmart will then proceed with the installation of the FTTH service. The turn around time for installation is 90 days from the date of commencement.

Please feel free to contact us should you have any additional questions"

Response from Vumatel

"Thank you for your interest in VUMA Fibre!

At this stage, VUMA is currently targeting select suburbs in Johannesburg North & Central as well as select suburbs in Cape Town. We deploy into publicly accessible suburbs which may or may not include estates, complexes etc. If sufficient interest is shown, we would consider a suburb for deployment.

Generally, we would need at least a 30% moral commitment of all stands (residents and businesses) in order to make a proposal and determine if the project is financially viable. If you're able to gather enough interest then we can definitely put your area up for consideration! You may submit your address here vumatel.servicezones.net."

I am so fed up with Telkom it's not even funny. Connecting to the Bromhof Exchange, living in Malanshof.

4MB ADSL and I'm lucky if I can even get 1MB in the evening because of massive congestion. Numerous calls logged to Telkom, currently a call open with them for more than 3 weeks now and still not even a technician sent to the exchange to move my line as they promised (take note they said it will take no more than 7 work days to do this)

Fiber would be a great option, although our area is not even considered for FTTH. Looking now at Neotel Wifi solutions, hoping that it would at least be better than the crap Telscum is selling us.

Neotel Broadband at the MacDonalds on Hill works well - 5MB constant (EDIT: On the 5MB package - I suspect 10MB would work fine on the 10MB package)
Neotel also has fibre there - not sure where in Malanshof you are.

Its on the "other side" of the N1 / Beyers Naude so might be challenging to link the two as a unit.
However, lots of Randparkridge seems to have MSANS so should get 20/40mb?
Is it really that bad there

Well not really, it extends and touches Weltevreden park on Dale lace I believe.
Yup the internet is dreadful, we have a "2mbps" ADSL line , our nearest exchange is 6km away , so we're lucky if we get 1mbps on a good day, most of the time it sits at 5Kb/s or lower ON LOCAL SERVERS. recently it's started cutting out all together, have been complaining to Telkom for months now , they keep saying they've sent a technician out to fix the issue and that it was resolved, but no change.

Hi,

Does anybody know who is laying Fibre cables in Randpark Ridge Ext 5?

I'm in Randpark Ridge Ext 41. Got 2 letters in my postbox on Wednesday, from Telkom and Huawei, both stating that Huawei will be upgrading services and installing Fibre in Randpark Ridge area on behalf of Telkom from January to June 2016 and that they may require access to our property.

So it's possible it could be them in your area? Haven't noticed any work nearby though and the area isn't on Telkom's Planned Fibre coverage map yet.

Has anyone else received such letters or seen work nearby?

That sounds like part of Telkom's MSAN upgrade, not FTTH rollout.

See attached the 2 letters which were received together. The one from Telkom specifically refers to FTTH, while the one from Huawei just talks of upgrades and maintenance. Suppose you could be right in that it is just the MSAN upgrades for now, though hopefully it does actually mean FTTH soon.
