So I see Openserve is busy with FTTH in neighboring areas. I want to plead with people from my area, Uitzicht to please go to the Vumatel website (Vumatel dot co dot za) and register your interest for FTTH in our area.

I do not want Openserve to wire our area as they are way too expensive, just see this thread https://mybroadband.co.za/news/fibre/201998-why-telkoms-fibre-to-the-home-is-more-expensive.html
If Openserve gets in, no other provider will be interested and we will be stuck with them.

If we can get another provider to install fibre in our area we will save lots of money in the long run.:)

Happy days. Vumatel is finishing installation in the area.
Now I see Octotel is also marking the area (on their website) for rollout. Does this mean trenching AGAIN!!!!

Got a call fro Vumatel. Am I still interested in a fibre connection?
Is the sky blue?
So they're connecting me tomorrow.
Let's see how this goes as the connector in the street (black box) is at the wrong side of the house.

Neatly installed ahead of time. Which meant I had to take time off work to be at home.
Few hiccups but the installer and I worked out a plan.
After 3 hours all fixed and line is live. Tested with my laptop directly connected to the CPE and I could browse to Vumatel website only.
Signed up with RocketNet 20/20 @R795pm no installation fees and a better router than the basic one.
They said router will come in 2 days.

Yup, mine was installed today and I'm live.

200Mbps is fun!
