Following on from the RPM thread, i thought this would be useful.

After filling up my car today at more than R900 for the first time this morning, i decided to check how much range I could get from a full tank.

Set my speed limiter to 110km, went to work and back home. I tried to drive as conservatively as I could, left the office only at 18:00 to avoid most of the peak traffic. It was mostly highway driving on the N2 to Somerset West. I could probably get it up to 1 000km to a tank.

Make: Citroen
Model: DS5 2l diesel
Year: 2013
Fuel tank: 60 litres
Range: 925.4km20181004_195927.jpeg

2016 BMW R1200 RS - 5.5 L/100km average over 30 937 km tracked. Best - 5.0 L/100km

2017 Kia Picanto 1.2 - 6.7 L/100km average over 5518 km tracked. Best - 5.7 L/100km

Fixed it for you, although a once off tank is hardly a measure of accuracy.

Only saw now it's Diesel, isn't that quite high then? Granted you wouldn't have used an actual 60 lites that's why it's inaccurate to measure like that.

Rarely ever fill the tank full, at the previous fuel price a 100km of commute will cost more or less R100 maybe R120 of fuel. Filling R150 will leave me a little extra in the tank after my journey than I started with.

Make: Toyota Corolla (2009)
Tank: 50l

Last fill up gave me 911km odd. Was on the freeway for 90% of that so will see what I get after this weeks fill up.

5.5l/100km

220d.

Usually around 6.5l/100km

With my Kuga 2.5T the consumption drops like a rock the moment the auto box changes from 4th gear to top gear. Unfortunately this happens at only 75km/h. 95% of my driving is in a 60km/h zone:crying:
The car would have used liters of fuel less if Ford could have made this car to change to top gear at say 65km/h. Even if I drive it in manual mode, it refuses to change before at least 70km/h.
I get a overall average of 11.6L when driving like a granny, some highway driving included here.

Hyundai i20 N 1.4
Usually fillup 39liters, as soon as petrol light goes on.

Tank: 45 liter
Consumption avg 5.9/100km mixed driving

580 - 600km out of a full tank before fillup

Opel astra 1.6 2002
My daily commute
6l/100km mostly hiway driving @ 120km/h it used to get 8/100 in town. It can go down to 5/100 if I drive slowly.

KIA sportage 2.0
Between 8-10l/100km

Chevrolet Aveo 1.6 2012
45l tank, get about 500 - 600km range.
Car is on 50 000km, fuel tracked for 16 000km.
Fuel economy stats using Fuelio:

Average: 7.49l/100km
Best: 5.87
Worst: 10.06

Honda nc700xd

99% of the mileage is commuting from Randburg to Sandton and back (rush hour)

I'm trying to see if changing my current driving style is going to significantly reduce my consumption. I currently get about 750km per tank. Increasing that range to 950km by changing the way I drive would be significant. Whether or not I can stick to it is another issue.

My other car is a BMW 125i and a lot harder to try and drive conservatively with it as it's so easy to just let it rip a few times and feel the power of the 3l, 6 pot motor.

It's also interesting to see if motorists are changing their driving style due to the increasing cost of fuel.

Why do you rarely fill the tank?

I have tried to change my driving habits, some weeks are better than others.

2014 Fiesta st, avg between 4.6 - 5.8L/100km, I get about 670 - 800km depending on the foot. Drive at 95km/h on the freeway.

Why do you rarely fill the tank?

I have a friend that refuses to fill up his tank, the most he'll go is R400, apparently he wants to keep to R100 everyday on his petrol but his tank is always in the low. I guess it works for him.

I got a buddy as well with a similar view.

The "always half full approach".

Drive & put in till it's about half, top up so it's always on ~ half.

aCar on Android. Part of the fuelly suite
Thanks for this, seems much more intuitive than the Fuelly app.
Although, I just downloaded the app and tried to link my Fuelly account. Gave the error below:
"You have one vehicle on Fuelly account which you're tracking its fuelups with trip distance (vs. odometer reading)."

Assuming this is a setting on Fuelly, should I change the tracking method to odometer, will i lose any data?
