Fuel Saving Tips and Tricks

I assume that the old VW Playa is not fuel injected? How do I know if a car is fuel injected or not and if I should free wheelie down or coast down in gear??

Give me the first three letters of the engine number

Engine number is on the license disk.

AGY is a fuel injected engine

Really? Wow...cool! Thought my poor darling too old to be fuel injected :D

Right...so I have been wasting petrol then cause I have been free wheeling down hills. :(

Will stop that now. Thank you for checking on this for me else I would not have known. I thought your car has to have a computer thingy to be fuel injected. :D

This is way off topic but I didn't want to start a new thread for this but what's your guys opinion on saving your brakes by slowing down with the clutch. Some articles say its a good idea some say its not, thoughts?

I'd much rather spend a few hundred bucks on new break pads now and then, than use the drivetrain to slow down with. Sure, engine breaking is very effective, but I'd rather wear out my pads than my drivetrain.

wtf? You won't wear out your drivetrain.

Rear wheel drive can, have you ever tried replacing the universal rubber on a 3 series? Not fun....

Guaranteed that would happen with or without engine braking. Accelerative loads are MUCH higher than engine braking loads.

The force required to slow the car down has to go somewhere. I'd rather send it to a cheap pair of break pads than through my clutch, engine, transmission, turbo, diff, etc etc etc. Personal choice.

oooook then...

Normally I would get 550km out of a tank...600 if I am lucky. By driving less aggresive...A LOT LESS...and accelarting slowly...I now pulled into the driveway tonight with 673km out of my tank and reserve light switched on just as I approached the house :-)
