The upper left and bottom right corners have slightly less focus than other corners. Only really noticeable when there is text from my XBMCbuntu box in that corner, impossible to notice when video is playing. Manufactured July 2012, bought from Esquire.

thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking of getting one ... if my unit has a focus issue, I may attempt to do the fix as suggested on avforums... depending on how bad it is.

I've had a BenQ MP777 on the stoep since Oct 2010.
* 4000 ANSI lumens
* 2600:1 c/ratio
* 480i to 1080p

It's a great little projector. Only used for around 150 hours, but thinking of replacing it for something much brighter for daylight viewing.

It's only 1024x768. Some would count that as HD (the vertical resolution is >720) but it won't deliver the full experience of a blu ray. (Not that one would want too, as >95% stuff on BD and almost 99% of Hollywood is junk.)

(Only decent thing this year is Anna Karenina.)

4000 lumens! And you want something brighter? Good luck finding that. My little 700 lumens LED is enough for me, most of viewing happens in the evenings and for odd daytime viewing, I just close the curtains and doors.

Some pics projecting onto my DIY 100" screen, the crappy HTC camera doesn't do the experience just at all, it does look a lot better in person.

You can't see in daylight with that?

You can see in daylight with less.

My first projector was 1000. I had the windows tinted in my HT room and had to drawn the curtains. No lights on.
My current projector is 2500 and daytime viewing is hundreds - with the curtains open.
I even watch at night with the spots on sometimes.

He must have paid a small fortune for a 4000 rated full HD projector.

It's not a full HD projector. Its native resolution is 1024x768. That will show you the vertical resolution of 720p but not the full horizontal one. If it's native res is not 1920x1080 or better, it's not full HD. Still it's a nice projector no doubt.

I see LG full HD projectors cost $15K. At that price rather get an NEC, Mitsubishi or Sony.

This Mitsubishi is full HD:

$1120 from NewEgg.

And this one has 1:100000 contrast ratio, at 1500 Lumens.

A 3mm thick sheet of high impact polystyrene. R295. The stuff CD covers are made out of. The sheets are sold in 2.5mx1.25m size and 100" 16x9 is exactly 1.250m high. The frame was an old bed headboard, (free) cut into 4 pieces, wrapped in black velvet.(R150) At first I got some hotspotting, as the material wasn't 100% matte, had some sheen to it. I repainted the sheet with Dulux brilliant matte white. R110

Do we have any in SA? How much am I looking at?

There are quite a few. I just upgraded my 720p to a 1080p. Retail is around 10k for a decent one. R20k+ for ultra sexy.

Why do you want one? They're not very bright.
They are very bright. I use mine with all the spots on without issue. Also no problems during the day.
Early ones were 1000 ansi lumens and this required a dark room. A lot of the current ones are 2500+ ansi lumens. More than bright enough.

EDIT : Ignore pay. Just realised a responded to am old post - that I had responded to already. Sigh... Too many whiskies at dinner.
