I see they have the 50" Plasma R11999 and 46" LCD R11499.

The model on the LCD is a LA46C550, but I can't see it on Samsung's website. This Plasma is a PS50C550.

Which will be the better buy?

General consensus is that in the 40-50" range - your best bet would be plasma.

12k eh? Now I really wish I had 7k laying around for a 46" from Esquire!
But I'm prone to LCD myself...

I stand corrected, but the older models are the LA, the newer model is UA.? The C550 is an awesome tv. I have the B550 (previous model) and it is really something. Just check the Hz.

The LAxxxxxx is the LCD range, the UAxxxxxx is the LED LCD range and the PSxxxxxx is the Plasma range available in South Africa.

The Plasma PS50C550 is 100hz and just brilliant.

The LCD LA46C550 is only 50hz so you if you watch sport go for the LA46C630 or LA46C650

hi all...

I have just purchased the PS50C550.

I have read about the calibration dvd...is this something i need to do and if yes, why?

Also, has anyone had luck with the interent connectivity, etc.

Thanks

Avinesh

there are varying opinions on this but my take is rather be safe than sorry

initially yes but it all depends on what problems and how you are connecting, more info is required

Nice! Enjoy it.

hey guys

Thx for the congrats....

I found out this weekend that Game had the TV on special for R10999 - so I went and got my R600 refund!!!

I got the TV to work and read my shared drive on the PC using the Samsung PC suite. It works well with little or no usage of ther cpu. I didnt have any issues with the playback, etc. The only limitation is the functionality is limited but from what I understand - that is the result of me having it connected via my router/switch.

I am having image retention issues, but they go away...so no burning as yet! Just disappinted at the image retention, but have read that the tv requires about 200 hours to harden the phosphurs???, so I am putting it down to this.

I am using the tv on eco mode and with a standard setting - no movie and dynamic setting used as yet...but thats so hard to do as there is a big difference in the picture...

Now I have to work on either a HTPC or PS3...choices, choices, choices...

I've noticed when viewing HD channels on DSTV that the picture is very dark. HD sport is no problem nor are the normal SD channels. Has anyone else noticed this?

Its calibrated :) Still not happy with blacks - but it is a LCD - so its to be expected.

That model actually offers high black levels.

I have the B650 and black level is exceptional - higher than some plasmas.

I have a sony 40" LCD and the SD content through the dstv decoder is quite crap... Anyone else got this issue? I've got 2 days to deside to take it back and get the samsung PS42C430 instead. LCD is FHD, plasma is not... What should I do?

Go with plasma. You will not regret it.

The 'general' consensus is that Plasma will give you a better SD picture than LCD, however let's not start another war.

If you are not going indulge in Blu-Ray, then HD ready will be all you need given that DSTV only transmitts at 720p.

In terms of the Full HD, once again, 'general' consensus is that you need a 50" or bigger to actually see a difference between 720p and 1080p (full HD) so maybe this helps with your decision.

Yip, I have a full HD Sammy and same story, unfortunately that is the pay off with a LCD, but I game a lot so LCD was a better bet.

If you looking for decent SD quality then plasma is the way to go.
