Ok so last time I had a phone line and adsl installed (about 8 years ago) it took 2 months. Tired of 3G and expensive data now and just saw that the 2mbps 10GB option from Telkom is now sitting at R399 including all line rentals.

So my question is, how long on average is the install time for a landline and ADSL line if I go with Telkom as ISP? is it still 2 months or has it come down since then.

Is there an existing line?

If yes, your longest wait is for the paperwork to clear. Once an order has been issued to the technical team it will be done within a day or two.

We moved into the house about 2 months ago. no telkom line installed for us, but the previous owners had one that they cancelled.

So I'm theoretically looking at a 2 weeks or so max. In theory of course. I can live with that.

Yip Mickey is right La Lucia is covered for upto 40meg vdsl and I think there is plans for fibre rollout in the area aswell.

So I went out to the Telkom shop and signed up. Apparently a techie will contact me within 7 days to arrange install. Colour me impressed.

On a side note, I went for the entry level one just to test the waters at first. R399 a month for 2mbps and 10GB of cap. Suddenly the guy handed me an "internet starter pack". D-Link stick modem and Telkom mobile sim. 200 MB data per month for 12 months. Apparently you get one free when signing up a new home ADSL service.

So I can test out Telkom mobile while I wait. Compared to my last Telkom experience I am shocked at how pleasant it all was.

I'm having the same issue. There is a line in the house but it's taking a while to get it activated although I did only put the request through about 2 weeks ago.

When you phone they say 7-21 working days.
On the 14th day I phoned and got it escalated with a sob story (this is a must).
The next it was installed.
