Full tank vs first click

Not quite the same.
But I opened a LPG blowtroch and held a cigarette stompie there and it did not ignite.
I flicked the stompie and there was....................flame.

SPARK does it.

So hopefully the bergie flicks his cigarette at exactly the right moment when you go around the corner on two wheels.......jirre dude. Give it a rest.

So why are you not allowed to smoke at a petrol filling satiton ?
Can't even use your cell phone?

Lighting your cigarette, which is an open flame, will ignite vapour.

The no cellphone thing is just paranoia.

I just tell them to fill it up. When they start trying to squeeze an extra 500ml in by clicking repeatedly I below out the window that they should stop. This is usually because I don't feel like sitting there while they fart about. I almost always fill up when I'm driving further than 50km, so even if they brim it within a few minutes I've used up a bit and there's air in the system. If I'm going to be parked for a while, especially in the sun, I'll usually stop them on the fist click. I drive a diesel and it doesn't ignite all that easily, so I'm not too stressed about it randomly catching alight.

I have had a car burn out with a full tank, it was a headon, and I'd filled up (to the brim IIRC) about 20km before the accident. The fire still took quite a while to get to the back of the car and when the tank burnt it made a pretty impressive column of flame for a few minutes but they don't usually explode. The tyres exploding do make an impressive noise though.

First click. I hate it when they try to cram every last drop and it ends up spilling...

If that is the tank orientation, you will only be able to fill to the red line.

Are all cars designed like that? I have seen a few cars with petrol spilling out during (over) filling. I fill until the auto stop every time. My manual says not to fill after that, plus, it gives a consistent fuel level to track my fuel usage.

Sometimes "First Click" gives me way less fuel than what I know can be filled comfortably.
I normally fill 45l when I have 50km range left.

I'll be very surprised if that is the orientation from the back or front. Seems to me your looking from the top here.

from the back. Tank sits vertically behind the seats.

Bear in mind, the "click" just detects when there's fuel at the level of the tip of the nozzle. Could be there's an airlock slowing down flow from the filler neck into the tank.

Well I guarantee my car does not have this feature, as well as any car which has fold flat rear seats. It's impossible for the tank to be higher than the petrol inlet when it's under the floor.

Ah, but if the filler pipe goes into the side of the tank, and there's any tank at all above the top level of that pipe join, it won't fill up that space unless there's also a breather hose at the top of the tank.

Just googled to check, there's definitely no tank above the inlet.
