Hi

I have a strange problem with my connection or with the software ... dunno which.
Im in the blouberg strand area currently.(dunno how to get the cell info on my phone [v3 razr])

When i start up the dash it shows 2 bars (the standard signal here) , but then it doesnt 'resolve' the network ... it just keeps saying aquiring.

sometimes it will pick up 3g vodacom SA and connection will be fine , but othertimes it just sticks on the aquiring bit.

then also ... once ive connected , all will be fine for about 1-2 hours , and then a message will pop up saying that theres a problem wih my sim. Please re-insert or reboot.
I then close the message , but remain connected. the connection is great and stable , but the message just , well , baffles me.

any ideas?

*edit: novatel card , latest firmware , latest dash from novatel.

The aquiring bit should mean it's not seeing the network, but I've seen this as a Novatel/VMC Dashboard symptom before. but you're not using the VMC dash?

Same with the silly SIM error message. I've learned to ignore it.

Both these problems I've contributed to the VMC dash, but, if I read you correctly, your seeing them with the Novatel dash?

sorry ... i might have caused some post confusion ... it is the VMC dash ... the vodafone thing. its just a newer version than the one on vodacoms site ... which i downloaded directly of another site (thought it was novatel , but was wrong ... must have been vodafone or sumfin).

the sim error doesnt phase me , its just the aquiring thing that never ends ... how can i get past it?

Can you check that the profile you're using is setup for Vodacom SA and not Vodafone somewhere else in the world - I'm thinking that newer VMC version you downloaded possibly defaults initial profile to a country specific Vodafone network...or not...

i setup my own profiles (3g only , and 3g vpn only using internet and internetVPN).

funny enough ... it sometimes works instantly, and gprs always has no problem.

Ok, well maybe the 3G cell is breathing a lot, and you just happen to be on the edge of its coverage or something...?

well that i wouldnt know hehehehe ... i didnt know cells even needed oxygen ... lol ...

Well, how do you think the cells in your body survives? They need oxygen!

Best bet is to your exact location and ask the local radio guys to look into it. By now you know the drill....

well im not going to be there for much longer ... should be back in jhb soon ... thus ... ill just go with my ussual shoot and miss till i get connected.

I also sometimes get the behaviour you described with VMC. Usually happens just after the SIM error thingy. Shutting down the dash and restart usually sorts the problem. The dash then picks the up the UMTS signal without hassles.

If I can ask, anying experiencing these problems with VMC, have you tried disbaling the request for pin number?

pin request disabled here as well cause i sometimes try the biometrics dialer.
