Hi Forumites
My Dad is 82 years old and has forgotten his password. I have his laptop Sony Vaio Win 7 64 bit. Any sw I can use to recover his password. I can still log into his mail.
Thanks

Check if the password is not saved in the browser. If not, no software will be able to recover the password...

Surely the I Forgot My Password would then come to that mailbox still?

While you are in his mailbox add yourself as an emergency recovery email and add his or your phone number too. Although these would ultimately require his password to make the change.

This doesn’t help with the password issue. But maybe it’s a solution.

Create a new email address, and from the current one, create a rule to forward all mail to the new address???

Nice lateral thinking, you may need the password to enable that though :(

Your dad should have enabled at least two password recovery options ... gmail even keeps prompting you to confirm whether your recovery details are still correct.

If 'my dad' is in fact your girlfriend, and you want to check if she's still being faithful to you, however ... hacking her e-mails ain't gonna be the way to do that ;)

Thanks for the replys.
Dad Is just going to have to create a new Gmail account.

Is it Chrome? Then the built-in password manager should have it.

Also Google will recover passwords if you can remember at least another password..

Have you tried the recovery at all? There are a vast amount of options.

And even so as long as you are inside the mailbox Google Support will be able to help you out.

The browser is Firefox. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll try the recovery tonight.

If you can still log into his mail, then it means the password is being stored in the browser.
So just go into the browser settings -> Security -> View passwords -> Enable "Show passwords" option.
Then you will see it.
