I've had my Galaxy Note 2 for 18 months or so, with no problems. Now it doesn't want to register on a cellular network - I've tried a Cell C sim and a Telkom Mobile sim. Both sims work in an old (non-smart) Nokia. I've tried manually selecting the network with each Sim - it finds all 4 networks and lets me select the right one, saying "Registered on network" immediately after I select it, but when I try to make a call, I get "not registered on network". If I choose autpomatic network selection, it tells me "Registered on network", but same problem if I try make a call. If I try to select the wrong network for that sim, it tells me "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network".

I took it to a repair shop who said the Sim card reader must be faulty. He replaced it, but it didn't solve the problem. He kept it for another few hours, but couldn't find the issue.

Wifi works fine.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I bought it online in Dubai in April 2014. It looked new - was in the original packaging, but I guess it could have been second hand.

Ok I doubt it is blacklisted in SA then.

Have you tried resetting it?

As in turning it off and on again? Many times. Is there another way to "reset" it?

This will ERASE all your data ...

Settings/Backup & reset/Factory data reset

(as per my Z3, your menu might be a bit different)

I think he means factory reset? Have you installed a custom ROM on the phone? Is there any new apps that have been installed before this started happening?

I haven't the foggiest what a custom ROM is, and I haven't installed any new apps. Some apps have been auto-updating.

As for a factory reset... eish, sounds like a lot of work and I don't trust myself to do a proper backup! I think a visit to a Samsung service centre might be in order....
