Galaxy Note 8

The actual device is a few posts up LOL

If you want a wider device, use it in landscape mode
No I saw those posts, but what I meant was to physically have it in the hand or in use to pass judgment.

Hahaha for landscape mode. Just always liked the wider screen of the Note 4.

Wait a stretched version of the S8? That's just weird considering there is an S8 +. I would have liked to have seen the old wider design of the Note range , rather than stretching length wise like S8 and S8+
It's actually quite bold of them stretch it and not widen it.
Not being able to use with one hand is one of the drawbacks of these large phablets. Now anyone can comfortably use a +6" phone.

On the Note it's going to look awesome.

Is the extra .6" display real estate just from shrinking the bezels or is the phone itself bigger, too?

Not sure, haven't seen a leak with dimensions yet. But the corners of the screen are less rounded so might be the reason for the gain.... also, if they moved an S Pen in there, it could also be the reason

So at most a couple of mm. I don't even think you will know the difference if you are already used to the S8+

Galaxy Note 8 release date and pre-order freebies revealed

Samsung confirmed several weeks ago that it’s going to unveil the Galaxy Note 8 on August 23. The company hasn’t confirmed when it will start taking pre-orders for the device and when the Galaxy Note 8 will be released. It hasn’t even confirmed what freebies will be offered to customers who pre-order the new flagship.

Some new information has surfaced online today courtesy of Evan Blass a.k.a @evleaks. The serial leakster claims that Samsung is going to start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 8 from August 24. That will be the very next day after the unveiling.

As far as the pre-order incentives are concerned, Galaxy Note 8 customers in the US will have to choose between a 256GB microSD card + convertible wireless charger and Samsung’s Gear 360 camera. The pre-order gift for customers in Europe is said to be a DeX dock.

Samsung launched the convertible wireless charger earlier this year. It can turn into a pad or a stand depending on how the user likes their wireless charger to be set up. The Gear 360 (2017) was launched three months ago. This $229 360-degree camera has 8.4-megapixel image sensors and can record video in true 4K resolution.

Blass adds that the Galaxy Note 8 release date will be September 15. The first wave is likely going to be limited to launch markets that include South Korea, the United States and some countries in Europe.

The countdown for the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is just a few days away, and all these rumors and “leaks” are just fueling more interest in the phablet, which hopefully will meet expectations. The latest “news” though is from official channels, namely the Samsung South Korea YouTube channel. They released two teaser videos that seem to be giving us a preview on the camera capabilities and the new S-Pen that comes with the soon to be launched device.

The rumored dual-camera set-up of the Galaxy Note 8 was nowhere in sight in the first video, since after all, it’s just a teaser. In fact, the phone itself isn’t featured yet, but the two of the features that it will bring are indicated. The “portrait mode”, a DSLR-like feature that phones like the OnePlus 5 has, is most likely teased here and if it is, then it may be a “confirmation” of the dual-cam since you need that set-up to create a portrait mode. These two sensors will also enable the optical zoom which is also teased in the video.

Watch it here today at 5PM or wait couple of minutes for Youtube to catch up, might even be live on some channels there too.

Wonder when local providers will offer pre-orders and free goodies... Or if they even know about this device yet

Vodacom is normally the go to provider for the Note. IIRC it normally takes MTN and the others a while to catch up with the Note-series specifically.

Yeah Vodacom is usually the first. Last year they were a bit slow as well, which in the end was a good thing as the recalls started just as I was about to go get my bomb.

Only hour left, think it will be a good phone, just don't see any surprises or things that will blow my mind. Not like previous Notes that pushed everything to the next level, nowadays it is just a safe step forward, not a leap. Anyway, hope i am wrong and there are a few unexpected things.

So... what are we most excited about.

Definitely the camera for me. Potrait mode was the one thing that absolutely awesome on the iPhone 7Plus. I'm hoping this can take similar quality pics. Optical zoom will also be awesome!

What else?

fingerprint scanner in a normal place so it does not feel like you are reaching to the moon in order to unlock?
