Just had a HUGE scare.

Just after finishing up at gym, I begin picking up everything I have with me to go change, knowing full well I cannot carry it all at once, lol. So what decides to fall out of my hand and hit the ground face first on a tiled floor? My Note8 of course!

Luckily I have this Incipio case on it, but the moment after the drop and huge clap sound it made had me thinking "insurance excess!?, someone taking apart my baby!?" I pick it. Up and turn it over, preparing for the worst ......AAAAAND nothing, not a single scratch, took it out the case, gave it a good look and nada! Thank goodness.

That was the sort of drop that would have cracked even a 2010 Androids display without a case and with all those Bezels
How much is your excess , premium and insured amount?

I cannot remember what my excess is but it was nothing hectic, I insured the phone for R20,000. Paying just over R200pm.

I just hate it when an unnecessary expense arises and something has to get fixed, it's never the same again to me, I always ovethink a situation and hammer myself on how I could have avoided it. E.g. last month I hit a pothole that damaged my tire, cool, I have Rim&Tire guard so I paid a small excess, but kept thinking how I could have avoided that pothole, but also think if the impact affected other parts of my car that may only pop up later. Urggh...

My Note seems to be fine though, all hardware shows as fine in the hardware test.

I see the December Patch is out for XFA it seems, hopefully it will be out for XFV soon.

I am not one to worry about updates, but with this Spectre and Meltdown crap, I would have thought Vodacom and Samsung South Africa would have shown some haste in updating all devices as quickly as possible here.

Excuse my ignorance but what will the patch update bring?

Gorilla glass 5 is more plastic than gorilla glass 4, so more shatter resistance but less scratch resistance.
If you have an incipio dual case then that adds a hell of a lot of protection too - they're drop tested to 10 feet apparently.

So, I'm going to the shops today. Do I get a mate 10 or a note 8?

Keep in mind I'm coming from three notes, so my question, is does the mate 10 have enough to make me not miss the spen?

Just setup my wife's huawei mate 10 pro on Thursday. It's faster than the Note 8 that I have(same home wifi and vodacom 3G area network) but I won't swop my note 8 for the mate 10. To used to the Spen after a note 4 note 10.1 2014 and now the note 8

Agreed. The Mate10 Pro is definitely faster but I also prefer my Note8.

Nothing out right now can replace the SPen.

Difference between XFE, XFA and XFV

So does anyone know the difference between XFE, XFA and XFV? Ok I know XFV is vodaphone which is Vodacom but what are the other 2

I was looking at Sammobile https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950F/ and I found the last build No for for each of them...

N950FXXS1AQK9 - Galaxy Note8 SM-N950F XFV South Africa (Vodafone) was updated OTA on 3 Dec 17
N950FXXU2BQKG - Galaxy Note8 SM-N950F XFE South Africa was updated OTA on 17 Dec 17
N950FXXU2BQKG - Galaxy Note8 SM-N950F XFA South Africa was updated OTA on 7 Jan 18

Does anyone know which is the better build? We have already determined that the XFV does not support Video Calling, other than that its fine. Im not sure about the other 2 though... Anyone out there that is running on any of the other builds to elaborate

XFV - is crap due to it being Vodacom, who hardly release updates.

XFA - is Unlocked and Unbranded, Samsung SA - if you buy a Samsung from Samsung themselves it will be XFA, this is the 1 to go for.

XFE - if I'm not mistaken this maybe Cell C or MTN, not too sure, I believe it's one of the two.
