I've got an Galaxy S2 with a 8GB sd Card, 2000 mAh (Extended Battery) and a vehicle dock kit. It is about 2 years old, good condition. What can I get for it?

I've seen a newer S3 go for about 1.9k. I'd say no more than 1.6k

I saw an S2 for sale today - in a shop, new not second hand.

Price was R3999.

Not sure if they will manage to sell it for that.

Though I have to spend more than R3500 to get a phone with better specs.

Personally, I just hold on to my old phones as 1) the resale value is usually quite low after more than a year and 2) it will be nice in 20 years to still have a couple of the old phones. For instance, I wish I still had my Nokia 3330. Shouldn't have given it away.

My latest strategy is to be the guy buying the second hand phones at such low prices, it saves a ton of money.

Yup. Probably end up dropping the price to R1200/R1000 before you sell it. As cool as the phone is, if I had R1500 to spend I'd rather get an entry-level phone with whatever guarantee comes with it and look out for data deals (Afrihost). A scratched SII with an old battery isn't worth more that R1000. Good condition with a battery still good or recently replaced - sure. I'm sure the plastic cover on the camera is also quite scratched by now so those pictures can't be looking too good either.
