So, Pick n Pay Hyper advertised the Samsung Galaxy S3 on a promotion this weekend, R279 x 24 months, on a Vodacom Everyday off-peak 120 Contract(phone R144 x 24 + Subscription R135 x 24)...

BUT they don't have any stock !!! DAMN YOU PICK N PAY !
I went to a few branches, and apparently they never had stock of the phone !
How do you advertise something when you don't have any stock ?

I have one in my hand now. Got it from PnP Centurion.

Phone their customer care line. The guy was very helpful and phoned all the branches for me and checked for stock. He then phoned me back and told Centurion to keep one for me.

There are aspects of the CPA intended to prevent this sort of bait marketing. Lay a complaint with the NCC at least and put it on Hellopeter. I despise retailers using this sort of dishonesty to lure in customers...

+1, but the famous 'while stocks last' line, along with 'e&oe'.... They get away with just about everything.

Checkers is the biggest culprit of this type of bait marketing. 99% of the time I have asked in store about the special and all you get is "Sorry no stock". So now I get a "rain check". As soon as they get stock the manager calls you and you go get your goods.

Don't put up with this nonsense, take them up on it.

A friend works at PnP Hyper, he says they only received two S3's for the promotion!

I called the customer care center this morning. Chick says she will call around and find a store with stock. 2 hours later she calls back saying she can't find anything in Gauteng.

What a fail.

Epic fail

Is this a temporary promotion or is it going to carry on for a while? If it was just a weekend special or similar limited offer I would take the cpa route. This is unethical business practice. If however the promotion still continues for the next few weeks, then they can still get stock.

It wasn't a weekend offer. Was for the whole of last week (23-29).

Wow that's pathetic. If I may ask, which PnP Hyper was this? I ask because I was at Ottery yesterday hoping against all hope that they might still have stock and the guy told me that customers have been streaming in since Monday, lapping up this deal. I don't think he would've phrased it that way if they only had two units to begin with, lol. (or then again, I guess he might...:erm:)

But damn I can't believe I missed this deal. 'Twas a killer offer, and the guy at PnP I spoke to yesterday said they aren't likely to ever run this kinda special again on that phone.

Lol it was at Ottery Hyper - epic fail I say.

Yup, it was a good deal and a good 'publicity stunt' from PnP :(
I went to 3 branches, same story... no stock. Also called customer service, who phoned some branches and could also not find any store with stock.

I think the universe is trying to tell me not to get a S3 :p

I was p1ssed off yesterday when I could not locate stock but it worked out for the best.
Galaxy Note 2 being announced on 15 Aug and will hopefully have it shortly after that. Rather go Note 2 over GS3 - so it all worked out for the best IMO.

Looks like I am the only lucky one who got it on this deal.

Hmm .. well my GF signed up at P&P Northgate even though there wasn't any stock, they'll get the phone in on Wednesday so I don't really know what everyone is fussing on about. Just sign the contract and wait for the phone.

Of course, I couldn't wait so I just upgraded at a Vodashop yesterday :D

Response by Pick n Pay

The interest in the Samsung Galaxy S3 was overwhelming and took us by surprise. Even though we had stock initially, it did not meet the huge demand we encountered. We are now back in stock and have extended the deal until 13/8/12 , available at all Pick n Pay Hypers. Sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 @ TOTAL of R279.00 PM X 24 MONTHS
( R144 PER MONTH + R135.00 SUBSCRIPTION ON EVERYDAY OFF-PEAK 120 X24 MONTHS)
(per minute billing) T’s&C’s apply
