Hey there

On Friday I received a new Galaxy S4 from FNB. Starting it up for the first time and connecting to my Wi-Fi, it would stay connected for anywhere between 30s and 2 min before the wifi would just turn off. I would then have to try turn off the wifi and turn it on again on the phone, this wasn't always successful.

I Googled a bit and there is a known issue when connecting to D-Link routers, however this issue makes the phone disconnect from the Wi-Fi AP, not completely deactivate Wi-Fi on the phone. I have also subsequently tried connecting to another phone that was in Wi-Fi AP mode, my laptop in Wi-Fi AP mode, at the Cell-C store and at a friends house, and the same problem occurred each time.

I haven't been able to get any more info about it, guys at Cell-C store hadn't heard of the issue before, so going to phone FNB tomorrow to find out about returns, was just wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar, or has advice on something to try?

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure why it sometimes wouldn't work when you turn the WiFi off and on again, but are you sure that your WiFi on the phone isnt set to turn off when the screen is off? This setting is under Settings > WiFi > Advanced > "keep WiFi on during sleep" (make sure its selected to "Always").

If its already set to always, then ive heard that the following can sometimes cure the issue:

1. Set your phone to use a static IP on the network.
2. Disable uPnP on the router (personally havent tested this, but ive heard it works)

If none of that works then it may well be a hardware problem, not too sure what else it could be :)

Thanks for the tips. It is setup to be always on.

I can set a static Ip for my home network, but not other places and don't want to have to do that.
It can't be a router thing, as mentioned I've tried on several different ones, including at a Cell-C store where they have a fully working display one.

Thanks for the ideas though.

Got a few mates with new S4's experiencing the exact same problem - no solutions found yet :(

Take it back and get a new one, mine connects to my D link wifi AP just fine.

Got a replacement and it's working 100%, think it must have been a hardware defect. Thanks for the replies.
