Galaxy S4

You make a valid point sir, but it is very difficult to stay calm and wait when I currently have a phone that does not even have internet capability. And with HTC, having pushed the date up to mid may, who is to say they dont do it again.

Ok, go and get a S4. :)

lol, trying to access Cellc's site now, but getting "Could not connect: Too many connections". Either the site is poorly designed, or every other person that has been waiting for the HTC one is considering the S4 like I am this morning.

Cell C are USELESS!! Trying to call their Sandton store I get no answer, their Fourways store are clueless and had not received stock yesterday, and their Customer Careline keeps going dead when I call it, I simply gave up on them altogether as a network, I can't believe they are the same Cell C I used when I was in Highschool where they were so reliable...at least in my experience.

Anyway, enjoying my GS4, YES it is very plasticky, that's why I like it, it's very light weight and thin to, it feels somewhat like an overhauled GS2 design but with GS3 proportions.

The HTC One looks like a great device, it will probably be a bit less expensive, that's if Htc are serious about competing against the GS4, but Htc do seem to be running into problem after problem, so yeah, who's to say there won't be another delay, I say wait until Mid May if the Htc One is what you REALLY want, if it doesn't arrive on the 16th, get a GS4 on the 17th. I hate settling though personally, this is a device you may have for +12months so I'm sure you want to take your 1st choice.

I think the HTC one might be slightly more, judging by what the Online stores are offering it and the GS4 for. I just went out, bit the bullet and got one. It is plasticky, but bearable, I expected worse.

the HTC one was my first choice, and I may still get it at some point, but i think i'm going to be happy with the GS4

Whether it be plastic, metal, aluminium, glass, etc... you can be assured 99.9% of the time a case it stuck on it. So no matter how good the design of the device, it comes down to the case you choose.

Now once that case is on, weight becomes a factor. And here the plastic design wins hands down.

Even my wife picked this up. I got her an iPhone 5 to replace the S2. She hated the weight of the iPhone (after the light S2). Within a day I traded the iPhone for an S3. And it has a case on it - as did the iPhone.

This is true. I'll see when the covers start arriving next week. I dont want one of those flip cover things. I would, however, not have put a cover of any kind on the HTC one due it its structure. I never had a cover on my Galaxy S a while back, and it was fine, until I was robbed of it.

The powder coating they put on the aluminium scuffs dude. Give it time and that aluminium won't look too sexy. Then you will put a case on it :p

If you are careful with your device then all sorted I suppose.

Good point, I remember that happening with the experia. I must say, I don't regret getting the S4 today at all, it's decent, and the whole hand gesture thing is really cool. It works on phones, not on Gaming consoles.

Ye dude. I was an HTC fan before Sammy and it took a bit to get used to.
HTC HD2 (introduced me to Android) and then HTC Desire HD. Loved my Desire HD.
I never bothered with a case for either my HD2 or Desire HD and by the time I moved on from both you could tell they were pre-owned. Not bad - but also not good.
Then I got the S2. At first I was almost disgusted by it's plasic design and being so light it did not feel like I was even holding anything (especially after the Desire HD).
I got used to it, and once in a case - I never noticed the plastic feel again. But damn... Did I learn to appreciate that nice light feel of the device. So since then I have stuck to Sammy purely cause they are so light - even with a case.

I generally enjoy feeling the weight. The Galaxy S was the first phone I had that was so light, I got used to it eventually, the S4 feels a bit more premium though, and it totally makes up for it in features anyway.

Ya - true that.
Gone through two charges already since getting it yesterday :) Too much of the fiddling.

How long does the battery last? I saw on GSM Arena that it lasts about 17 hours on 3G.

I have BetterBatteryStats installed so I can monitor my drain.
When sleeping my drain is averaging 0.8% now which is very excellent. Wifi/3G on 24/7. 2 email accounts, WhatsApp, Tapatalk checking for updates every 30 mins, etc..
Just switched on Google Now so will see what that adds to the drain.

My Note 2 and S3 averaged around 3.4% and S2 was about 4.5%. Everything on.

I think the battery life seems decent. I havent had the phone long enough to tell yet. Regardless, I'll be getting a wireless charging pad/charging thingy as soon as they become available.

Had a play on the S4. Screen is great but other than that all too similar to my S3 (expected). Next phone will be HTC one.

Did the S3 also have the cool gesture and eye detection features? I ask because i didnt get the S3 when it released, instead held out for something else. The HTC one is a very decent phone...it's just their presence that seems to be the problem.

my sister gets about 30-35 hours on her Note 2 but she's with MTN so she is mostly on EDGE. She also closes all her apps so they don't use her data since she is only getting 300MB per month. Joke is on her since she can barely use the phone because if she does, she won't have data left. i'm going with CellC. 1GB is still not enough but it is tolerable since their data bundles aren't that expensive either
