Hi, calling the android experts here. My 1month old Samsung tab went into a "boot loop" yesterday; displays first load screen and then couple of seconds later goes dark, vibrates and then switches back on - load screen again.

I tried holding power button - nothing, cycle continued.

After googling a bit I tried the following:
Power button + volume up + home button. This gave me android man that falls over with red exclamation mark. Then cycle restarts.

Power button + volume down + home button. This gave me OS menu option. Volume up to proceed, volume down to cancel - however at this point the device would restart again and cycle restarts.

So I got tired of trying and went to bed. This morning tablet is dead, wont switch on, wont charge. :/

Any advice? Any one had this before?

Thanks LinuxMan! Unfortunately the tablet wont switch on today. Also can't see how to remove the battery... So of to Samsung repair for me :(

And worst is I didn't even fiddle with the thing, was stock standard with only apps from play store.

Sure, 1 month old and you havent fiddled with a custom ROM.
Samsung will sort you out pretty quickly with this one, they usually very good.
Keep me posted..

Bizarre... :erm:

Hahaha, true story. I'm a complete noob with android. Are there any sticky threads or posts to read.... if I ever wanted to fiddle? And what advantages are there to customize - so what can be accomplished over normal apps that you download from a store?

Rooting basically gives your phone admin access, so you can do whatever you want and run some awesome apps. Check out xda developers forum and you will find all you need.

Everything is on xda developers...
You can basically remove all the bloat that comes locked in your device.
This gives you better performance and battery life, not having all the unwanted programs running.

thats why most people load a custom Rom that is just the essentials, no bloatware at all..
Some popular ones you can search are Omega and Cyanogen ROMS...

Here is a great start for you:

Thanks guys! Will give it a bash on my old Galaxy pocket once I get my Tab back. Sounds intriguing.

I've had this before, also on a Samsung phone with stock standard apps happening after not even a month. Had to send it in to Samsung, got it back within a week.

The lady at Samsung said something about Anti-virus and updates over WIFI causing the problem... I asked her to explain but I couldn't really understand what she was getting at. Does this sound plausible?

Got my tab back yesterday. I see that there are now extra apps on the phone?? Samsung store, Galaxy store, Samsung billing app and more. What the hell? Do these things just get pushed to the devices? You can't even uninstall them. And I'm beginning to think this is the reason my phone got messed up in the first place - since my problems started as I walked into the house (wifi hotspot)

If I root my device and go custom will stuff like this not happen anymore?

Root and you can uninstall them.

With rooting, some apps like the DSTV Drifta app won't work. If you ever ran into this problem, you could always download the stock rom for your tab and re-install it in the same way that you would install a mod. There's a ton of tutorials out there. What I also found is that installing the UK versions of stock roms came with a lot less bloatware than the SA version.

I believe there are apps out there that tricks your apps into thinking it's not rooted. Can't recall the name or the thread now, though.

Yeah, there is a way, edit the manifest file with 1 or 2 extra tags. In any event, rooting wins.
