Anyone still having problems with 'Newton rings'?

I notice a lot of people have been swapping out with no problems and there was talk of it being limited to one batch, but is anyone still having problems or do you think Samsung are on top of it and the problem is solved?
 
My second (replacement) Tab has not developed any Newton Rings thus far. Looking good so far. This however does not make up for the horrible Honeycomb experience I'm having. Since getting the new one I've had to do a factory reset three times already. Also still no way to monitor 3G data usage and good luck getting any assistance from MTN. They give you a 2GB data package but then leave it to you to figure out how to monitor your data usage on the P7500.

I was actually looking at the MTN one.. But you know isn't there an app or something from Android that can do that? I mean there are Tons of apps on the market.. so I heard..

Not one that works on the P7500. We can only dream of ICS solving this problem for us when Sammy one day in future decide to grant us an update.
 
kaisterkai, if I could swop my P7500 out for a new iPad 2 today I will do it. I am very disappointed with it.

I'm still on the fence with what to buy tbh. I'll be home in CT this week and want to purchase a tablet, but what I don't know.

I'm really just looking for a couch surfer, an occasion game and a magazine reader really so the ipad would be ideal. I need 3G in a tablet but the problem with the ipad is I work around Africa and you can't get micro sims here. For example, I'm in Chad at the moment where I pay about R900 a month for unlimited data, but cutting up full sized cards to try and make them fit seems a bit of a gamble.

So the P7500 is/was a real option but maybe I should just go with the reliability and risk a few sim cards until I get one that works.
 
Spizz, I'm sure there are many here who would disagree (even strongly) with my point of view. The P7500 might work out perfectly for you, and your SIM issue do make it a serious contender. My position is strongly influenced by my experience on my iPad 1 ... and Honeycomb is just so poor in comparison (for me). The limitations on the iPad is not such a big deal once one knows how to work around them. The P7500 offers more freedom, but that comes at a "price". Elimentals - who's opinions on these matters I regard highly - will tell you the problem lies with Honeycomb 3.1 and that 3.2 is much better. Unfortunately 3.2 has not been released by Samsung yet, and they might never do so. ICS (Android 4) may be awesome ... or not. With iOS I know exactly what I get ... and I personally like what Apple offers: stability, quality and an app store with good apps I'm willing to pay for.

Best for you is to evaluate the products with your own criteria. The SIM issue will probably frustrate you more than whatever good the iPad may offer.

Really? Really that bad.. mm.. thought people would move away from the "i's" now that android came out.. mm..

They both have their price..

Apple with apps
Android with product price..

eish.. difficult to decide.. and the suck thing is that, you can't really go to a shop and play on the tab/pad for like an hour to see which one you like.. I tried doing that.. and they kicked me off within 5-10min.. sigh :(
 
I must state that Samsung SA handled the exchange of my Newton Ring affected tablet very well (once the right people got involved). Except for the Newton Ring problem the hardware seems very good. The device is very slim and light with a fantastic screen. The ongoing problem for me is the OS ... Honeycomb 3.1. If you can live with Honeycomb then the P7500 is a great tablet. If you come from iOS - like me - you may find it to be a cheap wannabe alternative (although it's not cheaper, but should be ... like Amazon is now showing the others how to do it).
 
A major consideration/reality here is that you can get the P7500 on a very good deal with MTN. That, in the end, will shout loudest for most people. Unfortunately you cannot get the iPad 2 on contract. For someone without any tablet the MTN deal is a very good one and then beggars can't be choosers ... LOL!

kaisterkai, so true ... it is very problematic that tablet/pad buyers cannot get a good feel for a product before buying. One buys a very expensive device based on what others are saying (very subjective). When the frustrations hit one is stranded.

If only the iPad 2 could also be had on a cell contract ... (the waiting list will then be three time longer than it normally is).
 
I do enjoy iOS, I have an ipod touch and my wife has an iphone, so it is familiar and does everything I want it to do. I have never used Android but like the idea of a 3G hotspot and of course the connectivity is a bonus point.

But yeah, as I say I'm away a lot and have a lot of time to research. In the last month I've gone from Acer A501 to Transformer 3G to ipad2 to Galaxy Tab and back again in no particular order.

My wife is off to France next week and a 4S was my other option, but that's a whole new story :)
 
Spizz, the iPhone 4 can be used as a 3G hotspot so I would expect the iPad 2 to do the same ... not sure as I have the Wi-Fi iPad 1.
 
Spizz, that research can drive a person mad ... I know :D. It is in that spirit of "research" that I got the P7500 ... and now my research is done ... and it says: "Stay with iOS on tablets for now". I have the SGS2 phone and am very happy with it so it's not anti-Android sentiments speaking. I just believe the pad/tablet business is not Android's forté (yet).
 
I love my Android, but have to admit if I had to choose between Samsung and iPad I would go iPad.

Yes I have both an Original iPad and a Asus Eee Transformer, and I love my ASUS more than my iPad, but what Samsung is doing to Android just plain sucks. From Newton ring's to apps that dont work, I would say stay the hell away.

Unfortunately the ASUS does not have 3G, well they do but not SA models. 3G came out in July in Korea, I have a feeling we have to blame the SP's as they need to approve them for the networks before we can get them.

I just had a nose about, apparently there are some apps available for jailbreak ipads but nothing official. Seems to be quite patchy as well.
