Galileoscope - any good?

For what it does it is pretty decent. It's a very basic introductory telescope, and if I recall correctly can be disassembled to show how it works. Look at it as something similar or slightly better than binoculars.

It should work great for the moon and might show some details on the planets if you can hold it stable enough.

If you are looking to get a serious telescope then this is not it. You would be better served by something like the Starblast 4.5" (around R1500) or a 6" Dob (around R3000).

Thanks for the info.

Busy looking at the technopro site (thanks mercurial) - some impressive looking scopes there!!! <drool>

No problem. The problem is that this telescope is 2". You will only really be able to see the moon with this. If you want to start getting into astronomy, look at a minimum of 6". I seriously doubt you can view planets with this thing. The aperture is just not there.

For a serious beginner scope a 8" would be the best kickoff. It should be great on planets and good on deep sky objects. The 2 extra inches would be worth every cent.
