howcome with some of the newer games(rugby2005) when i try rip them to iso for backup it gives disk read error all the time? Some new copy protection?

alcohol 120%. I tried both my dvd rom & my dvd writer same result. The originals are perfect, no scratches

Google for ClonyXXl, it is a program to show what copy protection the CD uses. After this when using Alcohol select the appropraite scheme and rip. If this does not work try using Clone CD. When Alcohol didn't work for me Clone CD did. Hope it helps.

hmmm their forums seem flakey. either way....
South African copyright law DOES NOT allow you to copy ANYTHING without written permission from the copyright holder. It does not matter that some loophole exists in the law of other countries that allow the making of pir.. er backup copies. South Africa DOES NOT.

ok so then dont use anything to copy your cd dude geez

you ask for help then go off about piracy

if you want help ask and then stick tot hat dont go off about nonsense lol

oh, and who obeys south african laws? if the rapists and murderers can do as they please i will surely back up my software...

are you gonna buy me a new BF2 when my cd's get scratched because my brothers little boy thought it looked like a mini frisbee? pirate copies? good luck playing BF2 online without a valid, unused serial key...

Some CD protections have intentional bad sectors on the disk. The copy protection software looks for those bad sectors when it starts the game.

The bad sectors are supposed to stop you from Copying the CD. Normally CD Writer apps will fail. The copy protections doesn't use the bad sectors at all.

and i suppose you have written permission to make copies of those disks ?

why do i need permission to back up a cd that I own and paid for. I load all my games on to my HDD as ISO as backup.

So this means the music I rip from a (purchased) CD to my iPod are illegal too?

I use a little proggie called blindwriter to make backups of my discs, thing is it makes an unmountable iso of the file so u have to burn it to another disc.

This proggie even worked with the starforce games, has helped me out loads
