Man I remember when I first bought F119 stealth fighter....that thing had an encyclopedia in the box.

Well atleast witcher the limited/collectors edition, comes with a thick book full of art

What happend to the good ol' days... when you got a Box! not some slim plastic cover a BOX! with great cover and a manual that you could read, cause it was full of info... I rember buying Half-life and reading that manual at school instead of textbooks

I was looking thru some of my older games the other day, when i found "Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri" Manual. i could use that thing as a doorstop.

Hmmm, maybe it's just because I've played too many games and for too long, but I think games in general are getting worse (there still are some good ones though), the graphics are getting more shiny yes but game play and plot is very important to me.

Like with a movie, I don't really care how good the special effects are, if the plot sucks I can't watch it.

For me games with big, detailed manuals seem more special and less mass produced. Like the creators actually cared about the product and not how many sales they where going to make.

I disagree. 1998 was still the best year for games, ever.

Mmm. guild wars booklet here on my table... 120 pages A6 size. That's what - 30 pages of A4 goodness...

i have the gw collectors box set - devs should take note and learn wtf is a collectors set there.

theres no excuse for proper manuals stick the damned thing then onto pdf if printing costs to much money, effort and space in the case invovled. 10 pager manual they can stuff it rather than to waste it in such pathetic manner.

there is nothing wrong with bit of back story and everything else that enriches your gaming experience, but i guess this is all part of the rtartifier and pop teeny culture if just get the game out and not worry about issues as manuals and a stable ERROR free game - yes its possible to release a bug free application that is exactly why you test properly, take it from my as a corporate developer.
