been like this for a while, but game manuals are such a joke - i mean really what happened to the back story and so forth. Looking at cod4's one its mere 11pager wtf ?

Game manuals where only made so you can read them in the car on the way home, thus, faster cars = shorter manuals :D;)

But yes, i agree, i remember when they used to be around 100 pages long, and would describe how the "L" key looked, in case you wanted the shortcut key for using the lazarette

I blame the internet! Seriously though, back when internet was unavailable to most gamers, manuals gave all the information we needed. Since we have the internet however, the game designers stopped doing that due to the sheer amount of information that is available out there.

games were sold in boxes now it is sold in dvd cases. less space for manual

Lmfao I was just about to say that Ivan. ArenaNet seem to go all-out on their manuals. They've got lore for almost everything and make sure you know how to play before you've turned on your PC...

One game manual that is good is the Diablo II one, plus the stategy guide.

I have to agree, I remember when manuals were so cool to look at, like fallout 1 & fallout 2's manuals and Falcon 4.0's bible...

Now everything is on PDF and that just sucks and if it's not on PDF, it's short and pathetic.

Oh well... welcome to the electronic age people!

I remember when the games themselves were on paper - not this electronic format junk....

:D

Seriously though, whens the last time you actually read a manual? I remember when I bought Crysis I opened the packaging put on my new t-shirt [in the car], saw that it came with 3 dvds and didn't even bother to check the manual..

Games have tutorials these days and all kinds of on screen help and tips, so you dont need to check the key config, if you have hardware problems, you wont check the manual to see if your graphics card is supported, you check on the internet.

I guess we dont need them anymore...:(

Anyone remember Age of empires 2 manual?

They had two or three pages dedicated to each civilization and their place in real world history.

I read the Oblivion manual for the 360...i got so confused with the key layout xD

The Baldur's Gate manual is probably my all time favourite. It had a 100+ pages. It had detailed stories of the Sword Coast, its heroes, the monsters, the weapons. It was awesome.

No more of that :(

Heroes

Well those of you who play heroes v and all the expansions, would you prefer a detailed explanation of every possible skill a hero can get in the booklet? or discover it ingame? (Lets forget about skill wheels for the time being).

I cant quite decide, I quite like the mystery, but it also sucks when you get the wrong combination of skills pre latest expansion.

Cheers

The ultima manuals where also very good. Lots of lore and describing the circles and types of magic. Kept me entertained many a time on the old poo receptacle
