Game prices to come down ?

Just before the release of C0D 5, Far Cry 2 etc the retail price was R 306,00 for the PC version.

Now a few weeks later the best you can get in-store is R 399.00.

If the exchange rate peak caused this increase, now that things have stabilised can we expect prices to return to the original price ?

When people lose jobs, have no food etc I have a problem spending R 400.00 on a game.

R 299.00 I can live with ..:o
 
Diffilcult to understand how our game pricing works as in general PC games are cheaper here than overseas (when converted to Rand cost). I wouldn't think that they would come down though :(
 
Yeah. Went to Look & Listen today. GTA 4 (PC) is a cool R400!
 
There's no chance of pricing coming down. Even if they could I doubt the suppliers/retailers would do it.
 
It's sorta like this whole petrol price thing... I'll explain.

The petrol price has come down quite a bit (in a sense)
Now, I take taxi's... it's still R5, they won't drop the price.

So I doubt PC game prices will drop either.
 
Well I don't mind spending R400 on a game if I know it's a game i will play and finish and replay like 10 times and even maybe still play it a year from now.like diablo2 it's a 10 year old game but ppl still play it.And if you ask me now 10 years later will i play diablo2 again the answer is yes.

How many of the games out there is like diablo2 what you will play again and again and still be playing it years from now??Well speaking for myself there is not a lot games out now that I will still be playing a year from now.Never mind 10 years


The point am trying to make is there's not a lot of games on the market that's worth R400.
and maybe it's just me.
 
Try Makro for games they buy bulk so you save, saw COD WAW for R300 and GTA R349 maybe specials but that was before GTA 4 was released yet so it must've come out at R349.

you have noticed that the dollar has went up, right ?.... doubt it that many still remember return to castle wolfenstein (pc) costing R800-900 :eek: back when the rand was very weak.
 
I am sorry but gtaiv is one game i would even pay 700 for, it has its problems but the depth of the game is just amazing and worth every cent of that 400 bucks. If you think about it we get pc games cheap i think. they have been around the 300 rand mark for as long as i can remember and the rand is not exactly strong so i think we still get them really low.

if a game warrants the buc, i wouldn't mind either paying more. Think gta4 would be my first gta I actually would like to own :p
 
No ways dude i have bought all them just purely because the value for money is insane. Online games like bf 2 2142 CS etc should also be 700 bucks just due to the fact you get so many hours of game time out of them. Not that i want them to be hehe
 
Think about this for a moment - PC game prices have been pivoting around the R300 mark for the last 8 -10 years or so (I distinctly remember buying NFS:SE for R290 back in the day). With inflation affecting pretty much everything in life, PC game prices have remained largely unaffected. I think it's high time that they adjust the prices to reflect the changes in all other industries over the past decade.
 
I think they are slowly adjusting, but to increase the game prices towards the cosole price would push most pc gamers away, i for one, stick to pc because the games are cheaper. Pc's cost a lot to maintain whereas you buy a console once for ten years. What I'm saying is theres no need for a drastic increase in price for pc games but to pay a hundred bucks more for a game every now and then isn't bad
 
Games tend to fluctuate a lot over time. I've often found great specials, but it seems to be one of those lucky things.

Mostly I wait till games are on budget before buying, I simply can't afford to buy tons of high priced games that are darn short. However, I have no problem paying for games like Oblivion or Fallout 3, games that will keep me busy for months.

Some games are just too darn short these days. Games used to be a lot longer in the past.
