GAME selling pirated games?

I saw Homeworld2 in the budget bin today for R50 so I decided to buy it. Is a classic afterall. They cut the plastic and showed me the disc to check for scratches. I saw there was no visible key or paper inside, just the disc. So I just assumed it's one of those games that don't have a cd key. When I tried to install it though it asked for one...

Having nothing else to do I then googled for a serial and entered it so that I could at least install the game. After the installation completed I tried to run the game and I'm now getting a wrong disc inserted error...

Could it be the result of some bad old crappy copy protection and just bad luck regarding to the serial?

lol I got Serious Sam 2 at 49 bucks... And it works like a charm

Hey, i installed and played some SS this morning. Paid nothing and it works like a charm :p

Kinda sounds what I'm thinking atm

Checked out the readme, says nothing about activation. Don't think DRM existed yet in that timeframes and they would of included and activation code then...
 
I have had this problem before, but with CNA

For CNA, what they do is the store is allocated a list of serials for each game and then we you buy one, they give it to you at checkout. I never did get mine and had to use a keygen which was a joke since I did pay R100 for my game.

So maybe go there again and ask the people at the game section if they store serials "in the back".
 
The weird thing about this one is the game was sealed, they cut it open before my own eyes...Also the cherry on top "wrong disc inserted"...
Gonna go back tomoz and try and figure out what's wrong and ask if they keep serials are in the back. I'm also starting to think that ordering online games from take2 etc is the only way to buy games these days.
 
sometimes the serials are written on the inside cover of the dvd case, i have a couple like that
 
The wrong disc error is probably the copy protection kicking in, download a no-cd fix from megagames.
 
Ok there's definately something fishy going on here. Took Homeworld back to today and told them about the cd key. I then got a voucher and went to look at the the other copies.

Luckily they had recieved new stock of homeworld 2. I then saw that some of the homeworld 2 dvd cases was covered in just plastic while the others had a "Proudly distrubuted by Mi digital" sticker on with a barcode. I then took both dvds to the counter and asked them to open up the "dodgy one" first(the one without the sticker). Behold no cd key. When they opened up the one that had the Mi sticker on the cd key was actually there. I also noticed the DVD case itself was different. The "dodgy one's) case was smooth and had this weird number in it something like 12345-1234-(as if you looked at it in a mirror)777-33 smack in the middle.

When I got home I installed it. Tried to run the game it actually went in...
Unfortunately there was no one available I could talk to find out where this dodgy bunch came from. Sierra Gold Label Homeworld 2.

Thanks for the info. I might buy one of those too. Looking for something new to play without breaking the bank.
 
Interesting.

I bought the same game, and had the same problem. Took the game back, and discovered that the serial was on the plastic wrapping that I had thrown away...
BTW - game was purchased from Take2
