What about using an adapter ring? I might look a bit odd though, but a lot cheaper :)
I would still need an 82mm or above . . . plus the adapter. Its not the price of the filter - just the availability - I waited months for a UV filter in that size (unusually - canon actually recommends a filter for that lens).

Sorry, what I mean is that one large filter with adapters to go down to the smaller lenses is cheaper than a filter for each lens.

On that baby you'd probably want one of them slim-line ones as well :) On my 10-20 the polariser actually increases vignetting :eek:
 
@ Greg - how much did you pay for your lens?

The 55-200mm VR ? I bought it in the US for about $220, back when the Rand was stronger :) My mom brought it back as well, so it worked out to about R1500 or so.
 
Thats the one i want to get now. I would spend R1500 in a heartbeat for that lens.

In fact i would still buy it for that price, even if the rand is weaker. I wonder if i can get it for that price in London...
