Games condition young people espacially teens.

games dont make people crazy... you are crazy or you aren't, with or without outside influence

if my parents raise me wrong, maybe i would also be psychotic/crazy/clepto/etc

ive been fragging demons since the age of 10/11 and ive NEVER really killed a demon... right and wrong is obvious, you CHOOSE to ignore the rules

passing the buck to games is just lame...

I've literally have been playing video-games since I can remember...pre-ZX-spectrum or something! Played stuff regardless of age restrictions and I'm still 100% fine. I remember playing doom, heretic, blood and Duke3D [at age 10 (Shake it baby :p)]. If the kid has trouble distinguishing the difference between fantasy and reality, the fault lies either with the child's upbringing (i.e. the parents' fault) or it's an external/genetic psychological thing, as many people have mentioned.
Gouranga!

I don't mind violence towards adult males in movies/games but a woman getting beaten up or a kid, definately don't enjoy.

Careful you don't want to incur the wrath of feminists. I agree about the kiddies though.

mmmm 14 you say... this "could" also be the problem....
BTW no proof that violence in games cause people to become phyco's, just watch "A clock-work Orange" and you will know why!

Man that movie was messed up

"They are the areas I prefer not to discuss, because they are highly subjective and will differ from viewer to viewer. In this sense, the film becomes anything the viewer sees in it. If the film stirs the emotions and penetrates the subconscious of the viewer, if it stimulates, however inchoately, his mythological and religious yearnings and impulses, then it has succeeded." - Stanley Kubrick

Total genius!

To those who disagree that games and movies and music influence their behavior, my question is: how do you explain advertising?

ummm adverts != games || movies, please point to me R18 grotesque adverts in relation to games being held for making evil people.

and besides its so lame the whole over dramatized cooked up story just behind say selling vodka.

who in his right mind sits and watches an advert then runs off to the store gone to buy something just because he/she was just now influenced and controlled outside him or herself ?

once again boils down to weak minded people.
...

taking the initial parents post in mind:

a pc game made his son steal his money and lie to him - thus clearly a sign of lacking discipline and respect in the right places, but now its become a "devil behind every rock" search and destroy which now points to game ABC just because its rated and got a bit of ANIMATED violence.

fair enough they have ratings and mostly for a reason to - you surly don't want a 5year old running around in games like condemned or Jericho - or playing something like lula3D.

on the otherside a proper environment will teach a person not to be just influenced by everything and actually think and am for what he/she should be.

i wonder if the 'parent' has ever stopped and think about his friends, they do actually have influence its not rocket science. Your friends and where you hang can be the death of you literally not what you watch, listen or some digital interaction and besides its YOUR choice to point and shoot the gun not Doom guy on e1m1 holding the gun and pulling the trigger.

People are partially products of their environment. People are influenced by advertising and media images. Similarly, people are influenced by games, movies and music.

Please note my use of the word 'influenced'. The influence may run deep and may manifest in the person actions, or it may be unnoticeable. Either way, it still exists. Advertising and many media products wouldn't be the industry they are today if this fundamental were not true; that people are (relatively easily) influenced by cultural products with which they are presented.

[GS]

rather place the blame on money and religion as the 2 mayor instigator in all mayor war and death as to go and say that duke3D did it.

Looking at our situation its because some idiot though whites was superior that landed us in this nice aftermath we have now - and where did this white superiority teachings or and ideas came from ?

please point me in my replay where i said

AND DEBBIE SAID "ble ble ble...mayor war and death as to go and say that duke3D did it."

im talking in general which i would now mark henceforth since some people can't discern the deference.

no problem - think i'm going back to my neuroscience studies ;)

...this thread is on its way to the philosophical section

Everything you see has an effect on you, advertising, t.v., radio everything.

Its all about whether you choose to do things you/hear/play or not. That's why there are age restrictions on media [is that the right word?], its not because children have difficulty distinguishing between reality or fantasy, no, they don't know that their actions have consequences.
[and by children I mean 8 and up, by that time they know that there is no Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, etc]
