So I decided to re-org my games shelf this weekend, just tyding up & making sure all boxes contain their DVD's, activation keys etc. Now, I've got 2 daughters aged 15 and 17 who both enjoy playing games .. but apparently the older one's not so keen on my collection of violent shooters. The snide remark I got was something like 'Ok, lets arrange the games by genre .. <flipping through boxes> .. Oh wait, that won't work, you only have fighting games'.

So I am under instructions to inquire about alternative genres for her.

They have the obligatory Sims 3 which they still play a lot, but they have been playing Age of Empires and Diablo II for years so not neccesarily just 'girly' games. The younger one plays everything & even gives me carrots in Battlefield so the problem seem to be related to my collection of first person shooters more than anything.

I got them Fable III over the weekend 'cos it seemed like more of an adventure type game and they liked that, even though they've only played for a hour or two.

Any other suggestions?

The tycoon games keep my wife happy, (rollercoaster tycoon, zoo tycoon etc).

First go here:

http://store.steampowered.com/

Look it's a summer sale!

Get this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/

Then this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/

And:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/3590/?snr=1_4_4__13

Then:

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1481/

Then:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/105600/?snr=1_4_4__104_1

Then get them a wired 360 controller and this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/40800/?snr=1_4_4__104_2

Then:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/21660/

Then:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/3900/?snr=1_234_234__13

Then:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/22600/?snr=1_234_234__13

Then:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/80200/?snr=1_234_234__13

and of course:

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7932/?snr=1_4_4__13

Obviously:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12900/?snr=1_6_4__13

For a change of pace:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12840/?snr=1_5_9__13

Duh:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/11900/?snr=1_5_9__13

and:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/22000/?snr=1_5_9__13

And for co-op if you have two 360 controllers the girls can play together. Great fun:

That should all keep them VERY busy. Just only buy a game a month or the overload of games means they won't enjoy any to it's max.

LBP for a 17 year old?

Errr..ok

I was under the impression that LBP was fun regardless of your age. Like Mario. You can be 30 and enjoy it as much as a 12 year old. Unless you're the type that defines "FUN" by how much blood and how many swear words there are?

Adventure games? telltale`s stuff is pretty good. sam&max, monkey island, wallace & grommit etc.

yeah, my impression of LBP has been that most female friends/cousins etc find it entertaining, as they are not "hardcore" gamers

didn't know it was limited to pre-teens, hell, even i enjoyed it...

I'm male, way past 17 and I love LBP. Always puts a damn smile on my face....then I play it multiplayer with my friends, and it puts copious amounts of swearwords in my mouth. =]

I think the big issue is, you can't really just take your girls and put them into a box labeled "girl gamers" (yeah, duh, ok), so I think a good idea is actually to get them a steam account, and then let _them_ pick a new game every month. That way it pretty much takes all the work off your hands, and you can be reasonably sure they get what they enjoy.

/off topic
Got three of my mates this http://store.steampowered.com/app/45100/ when it came on special...and now it's in their libraries for ever and ever and ever...

Get them Portal 1&2. It's not a ShootEmUp FPS game, though you do have a gun, A PORTAL GUN!

Trine is now 90% off. So no excuse. For ANYONE.
