Cogs is Amazon's free app of the day. Looks nice, but requires a load at boot permission - have no idea why a game needs that.
 
Myself and the SO have become addicted to Major Mayhem- so simple, yet lots of fun, both on Android and iOS.
Robot Unicorn Attack 2 and Badland have some of the most stunning visuals I have seen on a mobile game yet. Or rather, I just love them.

Still need to get down to downloading Anomaly 2...

And that is a bad thing :P Kinda like the game even thought it's oldish, no ads and no complicated nonsense.

Another cool game, sucker for a good tower defense game, This is the best I have seen so far :p

Have you tried Anomaly 2? It is huge, but well worth it. More of a "tower attack" game though, which is pretty unique.
 
Oh, I have my own game recommendations...

I have been playing Injustice: Gods Among Us quite often as of late. I didn't expect to actually enjoy a beat 'em up on a tablet, but it is pretty fantastic, an very easy to pick up and play.

Gemini Rue will appeal to those who like a solid storyline attached to the game, which I often find lacking with tablet games. It gives off a serious Blade Runner-esque vibe, which is also perhaps why I am enjoying it.

Broken Sword: Director's Cut is very similar to Gemini Rue in terms of gameplay, with an equally intriguing storyline. I am a fan of the mystery behind the Knights Templars, so am having fun discovering the secrets found within the game.

The Bard's Tale is a rather witty RPG. Do find myself chuckling at the conversations that unfold, and the combat mechanics are not too shabby, and easy to pick up and learn. Be warned though, the HD version will end up downloading 3.5GB of game files, but the graphics are really great.

So those, the odd foray into Minion Rush, Robot Unicorn Attack 2, Voxel Rush, tinydeathstar, The Simpsons Tapped Out and Major Mayhem (along with Galaxy on Fire 2) have kept myself and the SO rather busy as of late. I have even stopped playing on my console :erm:

(PS- I love Humble Bundle. It allowed me to purchase all the games I recommended, along with Anomaly 2 and a few others, for the price of a single one of the titles).

EDIT: I forgot to add BADLAND to that list. Love that game. And yes, I do play too many games, but it has come at the expense of my TV time.

Yeah I downloaded the SD version of a Bards Tale on my tablet not a great idea the graphics are horrid. Finished off Broken Sword was pretty good.

Yes it's worth R72. It's an enormous open world sandbox game with very high production values. And it doesn't bombard you with sneaky in-app purchases that are basically required to master the game (Kingdom Rush: Frontiers I'm looking right at you)

I bought NFS:MW on the weekend and then discovered there's a graphical bug that causes it not to display textures at all. Very very very annoyed.

Not picking on this post, but it reminded me of something that I have noticed as of late: the ridiculous price of in-app purchases found in a number of games.

For example, in Injustice: Gods Among Us, one of the in-app purchases costs R800. The Simpsons Tapped Out has a purchase valued at R1200.

I cannot justify spending that insane amount of money for a game, especially a game of that scale. Perhaps in an MMORPG such as EVE over an extended duration of time, but not a tablet game.

That's exactly why I'd rather spend a justifiable amount upfront for a game of substance than be nickel-and-dimed with in-app purchases to make any sort of progress. I think there's even a case to be made for $20 cost if a game is good enough (like XCOM on iPad for instance).

Seeing as there's no game thread for iPad the games I've been getting into are:

XCOM - as mentioned above
Rayman Fiesta Run (even mrsc is addicted to this one and she hates games)
Kingdom Rush Frontiers (the Android version is also excellent)
The Room 2
Device 6

Agreed. Games like Gemini Rue and Anomaly 2 are very much worth the money.

The ones on iPad only, I will give a look. Seems that the time period delay between apps appearing on iOS and then Android still exists. I'm itching for Marvel vs Capcom 2 to be ported to Android.

Rayman and Kingdom Rush are on my wishlist, however. I was advised that I need to complete the games that I already have, before downloading new ones...

Really liked this game in the beginning, but with all the add-on purchases, it's become one of those games that becomes expensive if you want to unlock it all. An initial R10 here, then a R15 for this expansion, then another R25 for that...and so it carries on.
