What the hell is it these days with all the games being released on ps2, ps3, Xbox ect. and not on pc? I spent all my cash on a pc but know I can't even play all the best games! I couldn't wait for the knew Tony Hawk to be released and when it finally was it wasn't on pc. And a ps3 only has a 3.2 Ghz processor , THAT'S SLOW! And a Tv's resolution is much lower than a pc's!

Agreed, there are almost no new games scheduled for release on PC any time soon, and it would seem that all the game producers are focusing on consoles at the moment.

You can't however compare say a PC and a PS3 like this because hardware is actually used very differently in consoles compared to the PC. For example the PS3's processor has I think 8 cores if I'm correct, each doing its own part when running the machine. As for TV's, yes SDTV's do have lower resolutions, but HDTV's go up to 1080p which is actually a resolution of 1920x1080.

I'm not very clued up on this stuff and stand to be corrected, but that is as far as I understand.

All in all, it would seem the PC is beginning to sadly take a dive in the gaming industry. Only having games ported to it from consoles after long periods of time :(

@sitnet

I'm afraid you have the pirates to thank for that. Seriously. Infinity Ward did some stats on CoD4 and there are 10x as many pirate copies on the servers than there are legit copies, and that's just guys bold enough to play online. Consider the combined console versions of CoD4 sold something like 8 million units compared to PC's 1 million, and at higher prices, and it's easier to dev for consoles (single target).

The traditional advantages of PC have all been negated. Both HD consoles have multicore processors, high end graphics engines and online capabilities. the last bit is the control scheme but that's crumbling fast. Universe at War on 360's controls are great.

Sorry, 360's got that button nailed ;) It's just a matter of adjusting, but once you do it's game over PC. (From a content perspective)

The last bastions of PC, RTS, MMO's and flash games are all under heavy fire from consoles now. There's at least a half a dozen RTS heading to 360, similarly with MMO's, consider SOE and NCSofts commitments to the PS3, and 360 community Arcade, and things start to look bleak for PC.

But don't stress, there will always be Blizzard ;)

sitnet, i can tell you are trying to learn, but you have an awful lot to learn, so do some reading first, calm down a bit, and see the bigger picture.

i can feel your pain if you spent $$$ upgrading your pc, and now feel cheated. but the situation isnt as dire as you think

Last THPS I had on PC was Underground... ;)

Console games are more common due to the fact that they are specifically designed for that system, unlike PC games which need to run on a huge ammount of diferent systems, and require a little more work :)

There are some realy excelent games for the PC that are a few years old, Guild Wars, Half-Life 2, Call of Duty/UO/2/4, Battlefield 2 *CoD4 more modern* :D

IMO most of these "new" games suck... anyway Front Lines, Crysis, UT3, GoW PC ver.

I myself have kind of fallen out of my gaming habbit at the moment, downloading Anime 24/7 as my connection is so horrible for gaming, and the y blocking GW..... AAARG!!?!?! :(

Blaming the pirates is pure BS. The guys who pirate will not buy the game even if it was cheaper. They will pirate the game no matter what.

There will still be plenty of good pc games this year. What is happening the pc market is becoming a niche market which should mean we will get less games but better games. I will take quality over quantity any day.

This does not mean console gamers don't get good games as well but they will get more of the crap ones since they are now seen as the platform were the money is.

Anyway personally looking forward to mass effect pc version, assasins creed pc version, spore, dragon age(Might be early 2009 if it doesn't make 2008),alan wake, far cry2,starcraft 2 for this year. Might be some others I missed out.

Sorry Stefan but that's wishful thinking.

It's purely a matter of number. Bioshock - 360 outsold PC 4:1, Call of Duty 4, consoles outsold PC 7:1, we'll get the figures for RSV2 and AC soon enough.

It's just a matter of fact, the developers are selling 10 times more content on console than they are on PC and making more money for it because the games are more expensive, it's pure economics.

As for not getting the good games, your just reaching there buddy. For every PC exclusive you can list, I can list entire genres with dozens of consoles exclusives. If you like PC games, well ce la vie, most make it onto the 360 anyway.

I used to be a PC gamer dude, I've been through all this a dozen times.

Does those sales figures of your include the games sold on steam and other online services. They usually exclude those.

Anyway not going to get involved in pc vs console debate.

As I said pc gaming will become a niche market. I never said console don't make more money. Consoles are for the masses while the pc is for a smaller group. There's room for both.:)

I always was and still is a pc gamer, but not that much since i got my xbox. For me strategy, fps, rpg those types of games is nice on pc. Except if microsoft puts in mouse and keyboard support for games, i know i can already use a usb keyboard in dashboard, now just to get them to enable mouse and keyboard in games aswell. That will make me switch the above genres to console.

Fully agree with Doobs. The fact is that the market is moving towards consoles as it makes sense for both the consumer and the developer. The only people really threatened by this are the manufacturers of top end gaming hardware.

From the consumer point of view:

Consoles are far cheaper and less effort. There isn't a constant hardware arms race where your top of the line kit is entry level in a years time. A PS3 costs less than a decent high range graphics card. An XBox less than an entry level (gaming) graphics card. Consoles always play games on max settings. Your game experience is the same as everybody elses. The only choices you have are what display you use and maybe if you have a steering wheel or not. Don't have to constantly dish out more money to play the game as it was intended. Consoles are at a disadvantage with regard to RTS / FPS only because we are used to mouse and keyboard. If we had started out on a gamepad, we would probably say that a mouse and keyboard combo was a disadvantage for PCs. Anyhow, I still think it just a matter of time before (especially) RTS games on the console enable M&K support.

From a games dev point of view:

It's easier to write a game for a console than for a PC. There is nothing like a standard PC spec. Devs have to cater for a vast array of hardware and capabilities. This means much longer development times and costs. And inevitably, more bugs so much more time spent on patching and bugfixing rather than developing new content which can be sold. And the fact is, that you are going to sell far more copies for the console version than the PC version.

Piracy is a factor, but not as much as people think. There is piracy in console games. But far less and it is easier to combat.

When that happens, game quality will drop through the floor. It costs millions to make a AAA title today. Noboddy is going to invest that kind of money on a platform that doesn't guarantee a good return or that offers a far smaller return than an alternative platform. PC will become the domain of small, independant devlopers working on a limited budget. Doesn't mean that there won't be some gems. But mostly it will be the B-movies of the gaming world.

One thing I love about PC gaming is the modding of it. There are many games which are basically made more as a platform for modding than just itself. Think Arma/Operation Flashpoint, RFactor, Half-Life 2, Oblivion, etc etc etc. Being able to personalize your game is one of the best assets.

Look at a game like Half-Life 2 that is still being sold today, just because the modding community has been able to keep it alive.
