Games On Consoles!

When that happens, game quality will drop through the floor. It costs millions to make a AAA title today. Noboddy is going to invest that kind of money on a platform that doesn't guarantee a good return or that offers a far smaller return than an alternative platform. PC will become the domain of small, independant devlopers working on a limited budget. Doesn't mean that there won't be some gems. But mostly it will be the B-movies of the gaming world.

You can still make lots of money in a niche market. PC gaming is not going to die it will just become smaller than the console market.

You just have to look at sales in europe to see the pc gaming market is still very strong.

I don't see B movies happening to pc gaming.

Also the modding is very important part.

guys doesn't matter, the pc industry will always come number one, mayb not now, but give it a few more years(or a few decades) and then PC will be on top again!

The TECHNOLOGY in the computer field is growing super quick

Yeah I think it will go in cycles. Right now, a console is the equivalent of a mid range gaming PC in terms of power and capability. In 2010 we will still have the same consoles, but the same level of PC will be at least twice as fast.

I don't see PC gaming going away or even becomming niche. But I do think that you may see different sorts of games being produced for them. Well I hope so. Can't stand the idea that the future holds little more than an endless stream of FPS and RTS derivatives.

Does those sales figures of your include the games sold on steam and other online services. They usually exclude those.

Anyway not going to get involved in pc vs console debate.

As I said pc gaming will become a niche market. I never said console don't make more money. Consoles are for the masses while the pc is for a smaller group. There's room for both.:)

Those figures are direct from the Publishers, so yes, they're all inclusive.

Look I don't think PC gaming will ever die, it always goes in cycles, but we're getting to a state of diminishing returns. It took PC's a year to catch up with the PSOne when it was launched (3DFX voodoo), It took 2 years for average PC's to overtake the PS2&Xbox (geoforce 4400), but it looks like midrange PCs will only catch the 360 next year. That's 4 years after launch. (You need an 8600 priced card faster than an 8800)

One thing I love about PC gaming is the modding of it. There are many games which are basically made more as a platform for modding than just itself. Think Arma/Operation Flashpoint, RFactor, Half-Life 2, Oblivion, etc etc etc. Being able to personalize your game is one of the best assets.

Look at a game like Half-Life 2 that is still being sold today, just because the modding community has been able to keep it alive.

The thing is that that wall is crumbling down now as well. You'll always need a PC to develop, but look at UT3 mods on the PS3 (and hopefully 360), look at XNA community games on Xbox Live. User created content is no longer a PC only affair.

Blaming the pirates is pure BS. The guys who pirate will not buy the game even if it was cheaper. They will pirate the game no matter what.

That is not entirely true. Anybody would prefer a nice box, manual and original dvd/cd for their games. Pricing is an issue. I believe less people would pirate as the price goes down and vice versa.

I am an Xbox 360 gamer now (more than ever) after finding a good game rental company. The games on the Xbox 360 were too expensive for me to fully enjoy my console. Now I do. I play mostly in the mornings before work and at night if I have time.

I would buy if I could afford it. I think the game rental business is still to grow in South Africa.

Consoles are bs END OF THE LINE. Ive been a pc gamer my whole life and i have never liked consoles much. I used to be the owner of my very own ps2. And well pc beats it hands down. Whether you are a pc gamer or console gamer its personal choice. So stop moaning about the games that aren't coming out on pc. If it troubles you that much go program a ps3 and xbox 360 emulator. There are more than enough games out there on pc to try and play without having to resort to consoles.

So was I. 360 FTW!

Now I have access to almost all those PC games and console games as well. Each to their own I guess. PS2 is not a worthy contender there, mate...

360 is only R2000 now, there's nothing wrong with enjoying PC AND Console games, you don't have to be a fanboy of one over the other. For me it just comes naturally ;)

hmmm... there's something interesting to consider here though. If pc dies, or gets so small that there's no real games on it, we console players will suffer just as much! why? well, pc gaming is really the leader in hardware dev. because the game developers are always pushing hardware and so the hardware developers are always making new and faster hardware.

how does this have anything to do with consoles? well, if pc games die, then that push from game developers will die, then there won't be many sales in the pc hardware because there's no reason to upgrade your pc as much. Thus the hardware development is slow down and when we get the latest consoles (say 3 gen consoles) you facing the sad sight of only slighter development in the hardware, so the games won't look all that amazing and then you'll feel gimped.

I just hope that someone catches onto this, because I mean, I really don't want to face a time where the consoles are basically all the same. Hardware development will cost way to much to make a viable option for sony/microsoft etc

Don't Panic! PC's will never die! :D niether will consoles...

PC's and consoles are becoming pretty cheep.one can get get a Xbox360 for just under 2k! and a PC system for the same price! - although a gaming one would cost a little more about 3-4k. depeding on what you will be playing, if you into online gaming no need to jump out and buy a 9800GX2 for BF2 & GW :P

Then again it's probably going to become common to have a console & PC in the same house as it is in the States & UE & Asia :)

Having said this... it's basicaly a matter of apples and banana's :) you like apples or banana's or both!

Only problem I see is console exclusive titles... :(

Maybe for some but the majority of pirates will pirate no matter what. Most pirates will only accept a legal copy if it was a free give away.

Some Pirates would Pirate a free copy!! :p

Rofl, don't joke, I know some of those ... ;)

That's not quite the issue Stefan, pirates will use any argument to justify what they do, facts is it's wrong. Never mind that, you are right, some guys will always pirate, but a lot of otherwise upstanding citizens pirate purely because it's easy, and they don't see the value in purchasing the item. Not every pirate is a Pirate.
