Games on Itouch = jailbreak?

Is jailbreaking my ipod touch currently the only way to get games onto it? I've been considering it but I'm nervous don't want to permanently break it.

Is it possible to break it beyond recovery? Or should I just wait for our itunes store to get games?

edit: how does this gift card thing work? can i buy games from a different store with one?

Upgrade your iTouch to the latest firmware, download apps using the App Store application..

Sign in with the account you created in iTunes, sync your iTouch.

You can now download apps from the App Store. Try out the free ones.

To use a gift card, click the redeem voucher button on the iTunes Store home page in iTunes. The amount will be credited to your account. d0b33 on the forums sells these.. Contact him

You dont need to jailbreak the device unless you want to install apps from Cydia and that. But if it's games your after, App Store has much nicer ones than Cydia / Installer.
