Hi guys, my current (crappy R70) headset just broke, I'm now in the market for a new set, but firstly I have to get all my facts straight...

1. Do I need a new soundcard (currently I have a onboard C-Media 7.1 channel) - if I'm gonna buy one of the following sets...
2. Is both of the Headsets I'm listing 3D headsets?
3.Which of the following would you guys get?

The Razer Barracuda: (R1251)

The Sennheiser PC160 : R1021

I'm open to any other suggestions :)
Thanks

1. Yes.. no point forking out so much on a good qualtiy pair of headphones if your soundcard is gonna produce *** sound:p.. however c media is good codec on soundcards.. dont no how well it does onboard...

Look into getting a creative xi-fi music... i think they use sigmatel codecs.. i could be mistaken... 4give me if im worong, its early lol :p

2. yip... that pretty much looks like how the headphones wer built... myself, not a big fan of 3d

3. imho i prefer Sennheiser ... i think they produce some good quality stuff..

yup sound blaster audigy

good cheap sound

if your only going to use a headset this card is perfect

i'll be honest i cannot hear the difference in sound in most of these expensive sound cards vs the cheap ones

but if you have money to burn get one of those you posted up top and look for the razor sound card also around 2k lol

Yeah what killa said. Got myself an Audigy4 and it's awesome. If you've got the cash then the X-Fi range is the best.

As for headphones between the two you're thinking of getting the Sennheiser would be better.

the sound but to be honest u have to be heavily into sound to notice a difference

like i said if you have cash to spalsh go for x-fi series if not that card is cheap and very good

thats the one i have and the sound is awesome

Go for the Sennheiser headset. I would rather take the audigy 4, better sound quality and a remote

If you have a good quality sound card, go for Sennheiser :) I have the HD205 set and it really is superb!

Audigy4 and Sennheiser :)

BUT xi-fi and the Razer headset looks pretty sweet!

Cant get myself to spend the bucks though... :(

Bah logitech headsets suck, have had 2 that both broke.

All depends on how important your sound is to you. Normally onboard sound is fine for most people. Sometimes onboard sound gives you feedback.

If you are going to play FPS games, go for 5.1 surround sound, it helps... ALOT.
If you want the best sound and have the cash, go for X-FI or even the Audigy range. It gets tricky when picking headsets... avoid sets the feed the cable through the headband at all costs. They are crappy, period. Look at brands like Medusa, Razor, Sennheiser, even Creative.

not sure about the PC160 for surround sound, might be good sound quality but not real surround it only has 2 x stereo jacks, don't get me wrong sound quality should be excellent but not 5.1 surround for that you should look at the razer set.

my 2c

In my lifetime I've gone through many headsets and I now only buy Sennheiser. Excellent sound and very robust (it comes with a 2 year guarantee).
