Gaming laptop for high school kid who is coding

I can vouch for wootbooks but don't be like me and not buy the extended warranty. For some reason I thought I could extend the warranty any time in the warranty period. Boy was I wrong.

I love my wootbook. It's a beautiful and solid device, with amazing specs. But for some bizarre reason it doesn't really like my TV in 120hz mode. That is a long story in itself.

I would buy one again if I wanted a gaming laptop.

A well spec'd wootbook kind of breaks the budget though, even without Windows. You could probably find a good second hand gaming laptop on carb. I sold a 3060 laptop there for like 14k, and I still think the oke got an amazing deal.

A) got the device this morning, so +1 for Wootware service.
B) Nice and snappy little box, in fact I am shocked at how well it does.
C) Defaults to local Username and Password for Windows 11 (Big +1)
D) No bloat or normal crap OEM's normally pop onto Systems (Another +1)

Default TDP set to 6W, So if you want more power remember to set TDP up in Bios.
I will be keeping it low cause I dont want fan noise in the bedroom



Firefox Video Playback is smooth as butter.

Only have limited ROM's here at work, but handles up to PS2 at 1080p no problem

Overall not a bad little device.

Con: No mounting bracket in box, only device and power cable.

True that.

Was actually looking at them but for what I needed the Rysen 5700 was more of a want than a need.
This little device is more than capable of streaming 4K as well Steam streaming from my gaming PC. The fact that it has built in Bluetooth will allow me to hook up a controller and stream Xbox/PS5 as well, so if Mrs hogs the lounge I can still game.

Thanks for all the advice. So it will definitely have to be a laptop due to the need for it to be mobile. However, at home we do have a gaming screen and it will be docked and plugged in. On the road it will be plugged in but obviously will have to use the internal screen. Wootware did not seem to have much options for laptop. Seems like a great place to build a gaming machine which is not an option for us. Yes working and gaming on one machine has it challenges but for now we cannot afford or motivate two machines and it’s definitely time to start learning to manage time, so we helping. Also the risk of having too many devices for a child. School requires an iPad, a cell phone and a laptop. Adding a desktop in the mix seems a bit much. The budget should be maximum early ZAR25000 obviously the lower the better.
