Gaming laptop or inverter?

Looks like load shedding is here to to stay so if I upgrade my desktop PC, I'll also need to get an inverter. Currently have an older system which I built back in 2015: FX8350, GTX970, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD.

My sister is visiting from the US in December so I have the option of getting a laptop from there (and ignoring customs and delivery costs). So I think getting a gaming laptop from there may be the best option? An Alienware m15 R7 costs around $3000 with these specs which is about R54k.

The other option is getting an inverter to power my current PC and then eventually getting a better desktop PC (it works fine for the games I play for now at 60fps and 1080p).

The best is to get small inverter for gaming laptop, laptop at full tilt with monitor was 240watts for me while desktop around 600watt, thought your desktop be less conisidering the specs.

Laptop is useless for gaming while on battery, you have to really have plugged in to game on it.

That laptop probably use bit more than mine, as mine only has 11800h cpu and rtx 3070. I would go lower spec and decent battery backup system

Or set the GPU power limit lower on the desktop during load shedding.
 
3900x,32gb ram, rtx 3080 and lots of rgb, 34 inch and 24 inch monitor.

RTX 3080 alone pulls 320 to 350watt under full load
My 5600,32GB, RTX3070ti sure only 4 fans rgb, 2 hdds and 3 ssds, plus the 32" LG tops out at 490, that 3080 chomps power
 
The problem I have with intwl12gen rtx 30 series is that they are powerful laptops that consume alot and the fans are blazingly loud. My view is wait a bit for the rtx 40 series chips and opt for the latest ryzen which the lasts longer. But if your priority is to game, the 12gen is the way to go. Just make sure it's plugged in.

I'm a pc gamer but I agree with this. From personal experience, a moderately specced PC will kill the batteries on the inverter before loadshedding is over.

Thanks. If the gaming laptop wont work well without being plugged in then I wont go that route. So for now I'll just get an inverter that can power my current PC. My PC has a 750W Superflower Gold PSU powering it. So would I need an inverter that puts out at least that much? Also would need to power the screen.

(by the way, I bought the GTX970 from you back then. Still going strong. Traded in 2 HD7870s for it and some cash)
 
6700xt, 5800x, no drives (NVMe), dell 27" 1440p 165hz, no RGB - 400w is a stretch, more like ~360w when gaming.

The PS5, TV will do the same, the PS5 alone can pull 200W, throw in a decent TV and you're at 300w same as a moderate gaming PC.
Sure the pc may not be quite as powerful

Well, he was referring to a laptop which has it's own battery. But I think spending R54k on a gaming laptop instead of an inverter is not wise when you could get a PS5, flat screen and inverter for that money.

PS5 + LG C1 55" + 2400W inverter + AAA new release (GoW-R/HFW) + 1 year PS Plus Extra + change
 
Regardless of what you do, you'll need an inverter.
Laptops don't game on battery power.

Make a really energy efficient desktop PC and run it off an appropriately sized inverter.
Ryzen 5500 + RX 6600 + 450w or higher Platinum rated PSU will net you a very powerful & power-efficient PC.
