Asus ROG strix scar 17.3 with either a 3070 or 3080, 32gb Ram and 2tb ssd. Would specify panel as well but beggars can't be choosers.
I see evetech will have the newer laptops with RTX30 series cards within the next few months

Silly question, why do people buy gaming laptops?
Do you need your gaming rig to be mobile, like between home and a digs or something?

Got an Asus RoG G75VX that I now play Star Wars Battlefront 2 on. I've played other games on it (Starcraft 2, Battlefield 1,3,4) and it has never got hot. I don't use a laptop stand either.
THen again, the laptop looks like a frikking Lamborghini from behind and has vents the size of which I haven't seen before!

For me it was about being able to try out some games.. but i tend to get over things quickly (eg. games - i tested it a couple of times. i get wowed by the graphics and then it gets old the next minute).

Second priority (not higher priority than the above or in any specific order for that matter)... was loading speed of applications. I did research at the time and this one ticked the box for option above and application efficiency.

I also like the asus brand and their logos...?

If i had the choice now, i'd put more focus on the following items (to balance out my requirements)
- Need longer battery life (this one is weak!)
- a laptop with more cooling ability
- Ethernet port is a must. This laptop doesnt have ethernet ports (I use a USB3 port to RJ45 to get gigabit speeds (I am too far aware from my router... and my POE TP-link doesnt really do it for me either... so i've cabled it (could be because too many devices connecting to my router around my house? I actually have no idea honestly... conflicts possibly. who knows)
- Lastly, the hinges.... 1 of my hinges broke off... and rectron or frontosa ??? (1 of them, cant remember which) wont sell me a hinge on it's own.. they are telling me the only way to do it is to book it in (for 10+/- days) and then they'll fix it and return my laptop. I work without a laptop... so, asus sell very fragile stuff... in summary, I'd get something more solid

Well I want a gaming laptop for portability, media and gaming, at home I want a proper set up with a 2nd monitor and docing station. Can the also connect it to the tv and use a remote to act like a make shift ps/xbox. I am looking for a 1300-1400 $ - 14-15" gaming laptop but will have to wait for the rtx 3060 pricing. Must say the 17" I don't understand as it doesn't seem portable and the pricing is ridiculous in RSA.

Some apartments don't have space for a desk & chair setup. Rocked one for a couple years as a result. The other plus is they tend to last a fair while. Even after the GFX is outdated the CPU and RAM can keep up with no gaming tasks for years. I'm still using my 3 year old rog strix for couch browsing etc even though I've now got a massive desktop rig

My reason is rather simple, I'm avoiding a divorce.

I could get a much better rig if I went with a desktop but that would entail setting it up in the study upstairs. I like playing games while the wife watches her series or reads but leaving her to do that in one room while I'm secluded in another is just asking for ****.

So I go with the best gaming laptop I can get and crash wherever she is.

I had the same issue with my Gigabyte and Rectron. It's still not 100% but I got it mostly back to normal with Qbond and a lot of time. My summarized story:

* Hinges broke off mounts, got replacement panel from Rectron and replaced it myself.
* Few months later, same thing happened, but they couldn't sell me another panel. Laptop EOL
* Tried many expoy's, all were fail. Hit a luck with Q-bond and a year and a bit I fully repaired it.

Unfortunately the strain from opening and closing my laptop a lot has taken its toll on all the screw mounts, so every now and again I have to open it up and give them a good ol rebuild. It is a painful and frustrating process, but it works. TBH I wish I could pay someone to do it for me. The experience has left a sour taste for Gigabyte and Aorus. I was wooed by a Gigabyte rep who gave me a good deal back then, but the sour experience after my laptop reached end of warranty put me off for good.

I suspect the only way you will get around something like this is with a full alloy casing of sorts, like the Asus G14's have.

I see lots of reviews are coming out this week on youtube with regards to the RTX 3000 series laptops.

Big issue seems to be the power(W) the GPU's receive as the manufacturers don't need to publish this and the Max-q / Max-p has fallen away. Best to check all reviews and benchmarks not just specs before buying.
