Gaming LED Monitors Choices - help

All these monitors seem like a step backwards from the T240?
The only difference between these LED backlit monitors and the LCD monitors is the light source shining through the panel. They are potentially brighter and do consume less power though.

I'd get the Dell U2412M, it's a bit more expensive, but it does have a 16:10 aspect ratio.

+1 step backwards unless going IPS in which case the Dell would be best to keep 16:10. 16:9 sucks. And LED backlighting can often be a con (not a pro), had a giggle.

Neither the IPS235/6 have ghosting issues with FPS games.

I just wish the Dell U2412M has HDMI, then it would make my choices so much easier~
Ps3 gaming is bit more important than my current PC~ due to the fact that my System is old.

I am a fan of the 16:10 resolution but I think 16:9 might be better for games. The 16:10 resolution of your T240 is what makes your PS3 games look crap, at least that was the case with my T260.

I would not worry too much about the response times, I have yet to REALLY notice a difference with any of the latest monitors. You might, at a push notice it if you have two different monitors next to each other.

I would stick to Dell and HP ito brands. They make awesome monitors. Much better than the cheap looking Samsungs and LGs.

16:10 is awesome! And Landmarkpc doesn't seem to have wide selection of monitors~ I only buy from them since I can collect it and if there is a problem, i'll just drop by their place. Might just have to postpone buying my monitor for a while...

Lol, 16:10 res is awesome~ But at the same time my T240 monitor is dying in other words, it flashes once in a while and after it does that, it starts to readjust settings itself. And, I tried playing ps3 on my friends monitor, its very clear and crisp, while with my T240 its not, the quality is horrible!

And I wansn't complaining about the res, should've stated like this "My Samsung T240 24" monitor (1920x1200 res) is giving me headaches"

Did that clear the confusion?

16:10 is awesome for work and browsing etc but not for games especially PS3.

Only because it's a native 16:9 console running on a native 16:10 LCD and becoming distorted. PC games running at native 16:10 are much better IMO, especially when it comes to high level/competitive gaming because it's easier to concentrate and take more in on a squarer monitor than a wider monitor.

What about this new IPS panel thing? How different is it from the regular TN panels? Is it the color? the viewing angle or what?
Because some LED lighting monitor seem to look the same with IPS as well

Agreed. PC games running @ 16:10 look great but he specifically mentioned PS3 and I remember on my T260 it looked horrible! worse than on my 720P tv.

Colour and viewing angle mainly yes. Put the two next to each other and your should see the difference.

It seems the LG IPS235V is becoming a rather rare commodity, and from other peoples opinions LG seems to have missed the sweet spot with the 234 and 236. I think I might have to try get the 235 sooner rather then later.

What is the sweet spot you were talking about? in quality/performance point or something else?

and was told that LG service and product in SA is pretty good~

Perhaps a bad choice of words. What I meant was that the 235 received a lot of praise from reviews and owners, where as there doesnt seem to be anything good said about the 234 and 236.

The 235 is EOL though, hopefully we can still find a supplier with stock.

I see now, and luckily Landmarkpc have the LG IPS235V-BN in stock...from the look of it, it has all the ports I need such as HDMI(For PS3) DVI(For PC) good response time and new IPS panels with LED lighting! Might go for that~

+1 I got one really It's a awesome monitor.

I would've chosen the Dell monitor, but because the U2412M doesn't have HDMI, and PS3 doesn't really Like 16:10 ratios. So I would rather pick a 16:9 ratio with HDMI~

Id go for the Dell but my bank doesnt like the extra R1000 :(, plus I need(want) 2 of them..

HDMI > DVI converter~

Should check if one can run the screen in 16:9 with black bars~

my T240 can run in 16:9 on the PS3 BUT it doesn't give you the black bars, therefore the pixels are kinda squashed and the quality looks terrible~ If i ran it in 16:10 the quality is better but the side are cut off. Which isn't the problem~
The problem is what I mentioned on my first post, the monitor itself is dying and going all freaky on me such as Auto adjust settings to defualt, flashes non stop, auto detects connectivity like from DVI to HDMI to Analog and repeats for like few hours, then it stops.
