Need to get a new mouse for my dad for father's day and was thinking about getting a gaming mouse. He spends all day on his pc for work, excel, outlook, pastel etc. Figured the extra buttons on the mouse can help for repetitive tasks? He could use a normal mouse, but guessing the gaming mice come with extra buttons? It needs to be wireless, and some where I can buy online & have delivered before the weekend.

thanks for the advice.

The extra buttons don;t get used in daily tasks.
He will however prefer the better glide and comfort from the gaming mouse.

I use a gaming mouse at work due to the software I use and needing a larger mouse for repetitive right clicks.

Not exactly a gaming mouse but it has 2 added buttons on it and comes with a back lit keyboard also. I bought this and I'm very happy with it:

I'm using the logitech g500s for work, got it from loot a few months ago when they had it for around R500~R600. They're quite comfy as my hands are in a more natural "palm" position (as opposed to the "claw" in some mouse).

can you set certain buttons to copy and paste specific words/paragraphs? For example he sends over 100 emails a day many of the replies are standard so he would go into word where he has saved certain standard replies and copy that, now with the extra buttons can he just pusha certain button depending on the program and it will paste a standard response?

Should add he isn't using an el cheapo mouse at the moment, using a decent microsoft mouse, but its getting faulty and looking tired

Always been a fan of logitech mice, find them very comfy This one looks pretty neat

bit expensive, would prefer something in the R500-R650 range. But the shape is about right to what he likes.

Bought the wife this one for her work and seems quite happy, the buttons are programmable, so you're able to set one button to "copy" and another to "paste" :)

This one's a wireless, which comes with a micro usb cable which you use to charge the mouse when battery low and can be used as wired mouse if plugged in.

If you're looking for something in the R500~R650, then try the normal logitech G500.

Pretty much similar to G700 (other than this one is wired mouse), also comes with programmable buttons, etc.

With Macros you can make a mouse do lots of things.
But that sounds like you are asking for the mouse to do more than a macro is capable of.

Takealot has a special on the Logitech G400s for R299

EDIT: Scrap that. I see you need a wireless one.

As it happens, I am in the market for a good wireless gaming mouse as well.

Wootware quoted and recommended to me as follows:

  1. Logitech G700 Wired or Wireless Gaming Mouse - Retail - R 900.00 incl. VAT
  2. Logitech 910-003823 G602 11 Programmable Buttons 250-2500 dpi Laser Gaming USB Mac Compatible Mouse - R 900.00 incl. VAT
  3. Logitech 910-003423 G700S 200-8200 DPI MMORPGs Wired/Wireless Gaming Mouse - R 999.00 incl. VAT
  4. Razer RZ01-00510100-R3G1 Naga Epic 5600DPI Wireless MMO Gaming Mouse - R 1,613.00 incl. VAT
  5. Razer RZ01-00770100-R3G1 Ouroboros Elite Ambidextrous Wireless Gaming Mouse - R 1,986.00 incl. VAT

I personally have tried the G602 gaming mouse from Logitech and can definitely recommend it, however you would need to get rechargable batteries for it.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything esle we can assist you with.

I have yet to decide what to get. I've found that the ones I like have poor battery life, from a few days to a week. I need something that is going to last 1 month at least. At the moment, I change batteries every 4-6 months on my Microsoft Wireless mouse.

OK well if you don't think it can do what I require then isn't much point getting a gaming one with multiple buttons. So what do you recommend then comfort wise, that's similar to the g700. Logitech used to do a me performance mouse that looks similar, but I see its over a grand at the one or two places I have looked at.

Not a gaming mouse, but the Logitech m705 "marathon" is a great mouse.

Power users use the keyboard, not extra mouse buttons :p
