I am planning on building my own budget gaming PC. Does anyone have any recommendations on compatible parts? My total budget is R10 000, it can be stretched to R12 000.

See http://www.pcint.co.za/components.php for reference. I am thinking of buying this setup:

-1x P7P55D Motherboard (Asus) - R1580
-1x Core i5-750 Core LGA1156 2.66GHz 8Mb Cache - R1822
-2x 2GB DDRIII-1800 Hyper X (Kingston) - R682 x 2 = R1364
-1x 1.5TB-7200RPM 32MB Cache SATA II (Seagate) - R1166
-1x Coolermaster Tower Case -RC 590 ATX - No PSU (Corporate Style) - R774
-1x DVD Writer 22/12x DL (SAMSUNG) SATA - R199
-1x Geforce GTS 250 738Mhz 1GB DDR3 Dual DVI TV Edition- XFX - R1567
-1x W2243S lg 21.5 inch LCD, 1920 x 1080, 5ms, 30000:1, hd, tft - R1466
-1x Logitech Ultra Flat Keyboard - R192
-1x 3D Scroll Mouse Optical -USB - R51
-1x PC Headset 120 - R169
-1x Creative 2.1 (1 Sub + 2 Satellite) - R267
-1x 550W ATX Power Supply- Huntkey Greenpower - R427

That brings the total to R11044, did I remember everything, and is everything compatible?

Change the PSU Look at spending around R600-R800, Also what will the PC be used for? if its for gaming, I suggest you look at an alternative GFX card..... Have a look at the HD5770 AFAIK it a pretty decent card, with the added advantage of being built on new tech, the GTS 250 is a mashup of old hardware under a new name. Also if you can rather buy the vitals now, and buy the rest as you save up.....If you can leave the Headset, KB, mouse, and sound for last..... You ought to find something good as we approach christmas....
Finally try shopping around for parts, you could end up saving a grand or so....

Also, the RAM, do you NEED such high frequency RAM? DDR3-1600 will be fine, even 1333 is fine if you don't plan on OCing.

You should also check the voltage on that HyperX RAM, i know you get them in 1.9v variants and PCint does not state the voltage, you need to get 1.65v RAM or less

Yeah, definitely get a better GFX for a gaming machine. I'd not be too concerned with the PSU. Huntkeys have served me well in the past. Though, depending on what GFX you eventually settle for, you MAY need a bigger PSU.

Ditch that RAM and get Kingston DDR3-1333 sticks. Get 2, but not the kit. You can save close to R400-R500 and with that get a much better PSU or perhaps better LCD, but I'd improve on the PSU.

-1. Serve well or not I would rather go for the Vantec PSU.

For that budget you should be getting at least a 4890, especially since you want the pc for gaming. You could save over a R1000 by going with a good C2Q and DDR2 and get similar performance but rather stick with i5 as it is a new chipset and will be upgradeable in a few years. Just make sure you get a good graphics card because that is the heart of a gaming machine. For instance a R550 E5200 with DDR2 ram and a 4890 would give better performance than an i5 with DDR3 ram and a GTS250.
