Hey guys!

As the topic states what are the differences between the 2 types of ram? I'm not to clued up about the timings etc. and Googled it a fair bit but still don't really grasp it that well:erm:

Merely asking because i can get Dell 4x2gb 1600mhz ddr3 at a buddy brand new sealed at a good price seeing as it is a bit expensive according to this

Reason i'm asking is, a while back i posted that i'm upgrading and got a FX8320 cpu with Asus M5A99X EVO mobo and the upgrade was on the backburner a bit but taking another few steps close to completion.

So is it worthit to save a little more for gaming ram or should i just take the Dell's (getting the Dell's for R600 sealed and brand new:p)

Would love to hear your thoughts thanks!

Gaming RAM is a hoax. Just get decent branded RAM, all you need to know

RAM is RAM just don't get fong kong brand.

Don't mess around with 2gb sticks. These days 8GB is standard (unless you are light user).

Something like this would be great:

I mainly just use the PC for gaming and watching movies and maybe type out the odd cv:p

The ram deal sorta fell into my lap so i figured its a good deal and should go for it, but with some MyBB members recomendations 1st!

The Dell RAM is just rebranded OEM memory in any way. Just get it.

Paid a fortune for corsair xms extra low latency on my core 2 (likw R2400.00 for 2gb ddr2 800), I never over clocked so it was a waste, my i7 build i got 8gb kingston hyperx ddr3 2133 for like R 800.00 or so, if the price is good go for it, but if you not going to over clock, then there is not much point.

wont make your games run any faster , no real world difference.

I bought 2133mhz ram because i got it cheap , and it has LED lights whoooo !!

i paid R450 for 2x 4gb 2133mhz gskill ares ( think i got this a year back)

and R300 for 2x 2gb Avexir 2600mhz , bought it for the LED lights . ( got this a week ago)

Was bought 2nd hand on carbonite.

^^ This make alotta sense to me! My old setup is a core2quad q9400 with Intel board whic doesnt allow oc'ing anyway and it served me well enough with a 250gts gpu for about 5 years now and just thought that with the the newer bf4 and "next gen" games coming out that its indeed time for the upgrade.

Thanks alot for the help guys!

I'll take the Dell ram and put the exras towards the new R9 series AMD cards with the new Mantle tech which sounds exciting and a nice aftermarket cooler

Hey buddy!

I have a good feeling, thanks to the ssd i got by you off carbs, that it will run waaay faster than my old setup! Thanks once again for the swap simply love it!

agreed. Got 16GB of corsair vengeance ram rated at 1866MHz. First ran it at stock 1333MHz. Fel no difference when I upped the speed to 1866MHz.

Gaming ram is a waste of money. Just make 100% sure that whatever you buy is supported by your motherboard.

It shouldn't because of two things:

From a marketing point of view XMS and HyperX both fall in the "OMG WTF Whooohooo!!!" category.

Secondly he's comparing DDR2 against DDR3, which is much cheaper than DDR2.

Oh and like other's have said, RAM is RAM, get the those with the lowest latency and the highest bandwidth :)

Speed and latency normally share an inverse relationship so it's pretty much the same across the board regardless of speed.

I only see the larger heatsinks as a benefit.
