Hi Guys

I've been more of a laptop person but now i've decided to ditch the laptop and go desktop.

So since this is my first desktop I need some help on deciding what to get.

I want to be able to game on it (MW3 - BF3 etc)

I have a budget of R6800 excl the monitor

I will be using a Sony Bravia 32inch as my Monitor

So far I only have 1 Quote from:

PC Zone

Intel Core i7 2600 3.40GHZ
MSi Intel H61 Motherboard
2 x Kingmax 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Ram
1TB Seagate sata 3 7200rpm HDD 32MB
MSi AMD Radeon HD6670 DDR5 1GB 128Bit
Superchannel 550w PSU
LG DVD Writer

Phenom II X4 paired with a HD6950
OR
mid level Sandy bridge chip paired with a HD6870

I would recommend the first option as you'll be able to afford a better GPU, and BF3 cares very very little about CPU grunt at HD resolutions (you really only need a dual core)

Don't touch that rig, i have yet to see the amd specials but they are worth looking at.

The sandy bridge 2400 springs to mind with a lowish end mobo of 1k and you should be doing well. That power supply unit would worry me a little as well, i will google it later and see but build your own rig don't buy pre built stuff.

I am sure archer can put together something lekka, when i am finished work i will as well if he hasn't put up something.

cool, so you say the Pc Zone 1 is cr@p?

Ah, I see you edited your post (I couldnt read the image at all)
Its specced completely wrong, top end CPU with low end GPU. Worst combo for gaming ever.

No crap but as archer mentions there is no point having a good cpu with a low end gpu, you want a mid end cpu with a mid end gpu.

Perhaps you could even get a 6950 if you go for i3. I would say go for a quadcore though because bf 3 and cod may not be hard on 2 cores but who knows what games you plan on playing. The pc looks fine but that gpu looks a worry plus the PSU but only because i have never heard of it.

You have never heard of MSI?

The GPU should handle all games, maybe not on high settings am I right?

I just want something cable of playing the latest games for the next 1.5 - 2 years with decent quality

Yes it is fine but i don't know if it will be fine for 2 years and it makes no sense to have such a good cpu when you can lower the cpu and have a setup capable of running games on medium to high for the next 2 years. I am leaving the office in about 5 minutes and it takes one minute to get home :D I will show you a better gaming rig for roughly the same money.

I would be very concerned about the bolded part I have been using a 128 bit card and while it works fine at lower resolutions it really struggles when trying to up the resoultion. As others have said try for at least the HD6870, through I am also in the process of building a PC my budget is 8k {but the monitor costs 1k} so roughly the same as yours, I don't need a Hard drive so minus that but everything else I need and I found I can get a much nicer PC for that price as long as you are prepared to build it yourself.

6870 2k, maybe someone can direct us to a good special on it

You could always ask pczone if they would change the cpu for the 2500 and change the gpu to a 560 nvidia, see what they say. If they agree go for it dude. Ask them for a quote to build a simlar machine but with a 2500 and 6970/50 or nvidia 560ti. They do have very good pricing so that may be your best option.

killa, have you looked at the esquire pricelist as I suspect he could probably shave a couple of rand off on some of the components.

Okay I did some research and....

i5 2500K
8GB Ram
MSi H61 MotherBoard
Sigma Orca Chassis
KB + Mouse
585W Gigabyte Odin PSU
500GB HDD
ATI HD6870 GPU

Cost - R6644

Good Deal + about R200 for a DVD writer and it comes to about R6850

Nimz,

I don't think that PSU is a good one but could be wrong.

Where is that stuff from?

Please dont get a "K" version cpu on a h61 MB -_-...rather get a non k cpu, like a 2400 or 2500....and they should be cheaper than the k version, so extra dosh to put towards something else...

Spend a few simoleons more and get a Corsair TX430
No point buying that CPU with that mobo - it wont let you overclock it. I'd suggest the plain 2400, so you save some bucks. Put that toward a HD6950 if possible, otherwise the HD6870 is just fine (51fps with med settings on BF3)

Yup but i don't know if he knows about them or the account i should say. He could shave a shyte load off by using them. Good point :D.
