Zalman ZM600-HP Power Supply - 600w Price: R 1,605
Corsair HX620W Power Supply - 620w Price: R 1,620

don't forget, you need a 64 bit os if you have more than 3 gigs ram or else it's wasted above 3 gig on 32 bit os.

It's ok man. a 32bit os will pick up around 3.2 gigs. With ram being so cheap it's not much of an issue and when he goes 64bit, most likely with windows 7 he'll get the full 4gigs.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Yea, well R 13k Sounds perfect.

How would you rate this setup for gaming ?
Running on XP SP3 and a Duo core 1.88ghz CPU

Honestly your cpu will hold back your system. But unless you can actually see the difference between 30 and 70 fps, don't worry about it. You won't lag.

I'd suggest try overclocking the cpu to even just 2.4Ghz, would be great.

That sounds perfect thanx PostmanPot.

I also want a Blu-Ray and DvD-rw

Does anyone have some prices on any of these ?

DVD RW is around R250/R300 bucks. I'd suggest an IDE one to avoid using up your sata slots unnecessarily.

A bd drive? Hmmm:

Lite-On DH-4O1S 4x Blu-ray Reader Price: R 1,405

Nice so I will clock in just under R 15k :)

I got the CPU for free as a gift and will want to use it as long as I can before I need to replace it or the Mobo.

Worse case I can always upgrade the CPU at a later stage ofc :)

Anyway, that chunck of change should leave me new game ready for a good few years yea ?

If you're using a core duo cpu it's going to seriously bottleneck a 4870. There isn't even much point spending so money to get such a powerful GPU with that processor unless you intend to upgrade in a year or so. Or if you OC it to 2.6-3.0 ghz territory, which is also an option. Speak to Alanf85 he's having the same problem on his system, and he has a low end core2duo and a 4850.

Dude I can honestly tell you the hands down best peripherals for gaming (That is if you want to go professional - multiplayer. If you're only looking for single player with some very occassional multiplayer then really anything will do. Most of the best teams in the world (and as far as I know fatal1ty uses this mouse aswell now)

Razer Deathadder (+-R600)
Razer Goliathus Speed Mat (R+-150)

The Logitech and SteelSeries stuff is also pretty good, but I would advise you to go with razer, they are the only mice I've never had a problem with, and I've had quite alot :)

As far as keyboards go, these are really not that important but the Logitech G15 is probably your best buy, although I do feel its a little gimicky. Headset once again its really up to you and your budget, my personal choice would be the Sennheiser PC260s, but those are clocking in at R2.5k so yeah :P

No offence to you, but whenever I see someone recommend a "gaming" mouse pad I smile.

A while ago NAG did a pretty thorough of a whole bunch of "gaming" mouse pads.

Guess what won.

A polished porcelain tile. I kid you not.

R150 bucks for a box and if one breaks you have 9spare. :D
