Gang attacks Fourways Mall

A lot of people would probably say this is overly violent etc. but I say put snipers on the roof of the malls and blow these fsckers away as they come running out.

Mmmm guys in the mall and 12 outside all armed with R5's it will get BLOODY!!!!

icyrus, I think that is a bit unfair there is nothing ridiculous about a crime like this, this is a premeditated violent act which involves lots of planning on the part of the perpetrators. The perpetrators are also prepared to kill anyone who gets in their way

These two police officers should be commended, they were outnumbered and outgunned yet they did their duty. It is verly likly that if they had decided to surrender they would have been shot out of hand.

The fact that the police were unable to apprehend the supects once they fled is not unusually as it is very easy for the crimminal element to blend into the general population.

Look, I realise that it might not seem that way but I have a lot of respect for cops and what they do, buy my experiences with the cops in this country have not been good. They are never where you need them and don't seem to even bother trying to solve crimes like hijacking, house assaults or the like unless they happen to someone famous and there is media pressure.

Tell me, where was the backup for the cops at the mall? I guess they must have called it in as soon as they saw what was going down and yet there was time for the criminals to drag their wounded comrade out and have a gunfight in the parking lot before any backup could arrive?

I am not trying to be argumentative but I believe the cops in this country to be critically understaffed, under-equipped and have massive corruption and incompetence problems.

In a moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

icyrus I understand where you are coming from.

As for never been there when you need them for the most part that is true, the police mainly react to incidents that have occurred or are in the process of occurring. There are occasions where through luck (the two officers in the mall) or by crime intelligence, that our units are able to prevent or intervene immediately.

As for solving cases, it is not like CSI where you have a whole team working on one case, here you have one detective working on 100 open cases

The back up was on the way I assume, unless of course the officers didn’t have hand radios (Unfortunately this is normal hand radios are like diamonds)

It all depends how close the nearest backup was and how long it would take them to fight through traffic (who for the most part ignore emergency vehicles)

I am not trying to be argumentative but I believe the cops in this country to be critically understaffed, under-equipped and have massive corruption and incompetence problems.

That is very true, unfortunately and it needs to be sorted out ASAP

This Friday past one of our vehicles was lured into an ambush, the officers were called to a desolate road for a domestic violence complaint and as they entered the bush they were confronted by a group of armed men. Luckily they managed to escape, in this instance their back took a while to arrive due to the distances involved

@ r/sgt: a reactionary police force is always going to fight a losing battle. preventative policing is the answer. as icyrus said:

I would like to add: the type of people becoming policemen and women are not likely to be the brightest society has to offer. Smart people get qualified and seek jobs where they will be compensated in line with market related trends. A cop salary is pathetic, and unfortunately that inevitably means that not-so-bright people become cops. I wonder how many reservists would become full time cops if the pay matched what they earned in their day jobs.

A reaction-based force will always have trouble fighting crime. They're mostly there to catch the guys after the fact. For preventative measures you need guards, security systems and, most of all, armed citizens.

Reaction-based policing does have some value as a warning measure. This is typified by the Old West comment: "We don't hang thieves because they steal. We hang thieves to prevent people from stealing."

Leitmotif and BobbyMac I agree with you, there are ways to make it more preventitive. We can increase increase the number of competent police officers, increase the crime inteligence dept, use more technology cctv, uav, gunshot sensors etc.

It all boils down to what level of intrusion people are willing to accept in order to feel safe?

Competent firearm ownership is a must.

Make punishment fit the crime and the process must be streamlined and made more efficient.
