Garmin Mobile XT - New version in July, Vehicles

Garmin was one of few companies that made quite the splash last week at CTIA 2008 in Las Vegas, announcing partnerships and updates for their Garmin Mobile XT navigation application, which we reviewed here on Symbian-Guru. The updates include enhanced user interface, as well as the inclusion of Google Local Search, which should really position Garmin Mobile XT as a fierce competitor, if it wasn’t already. Users can expect the new version to debut in July 2008.

Even though it doesnt list it on the Garmin website, you can use other vehicles offered for the other Garmin devices like ambulances, fire trucks, tanks, etc. I am currently using the Black Pearl pirate ship. It doesnt look like much when in 2D but when the map is in 3D, it looks pretty cool. Also, I dont know if it works on any of the N95-X because I havent one to test it on. You can download many or all the different objects in their .srf file and save to garmin/vehicles folder of the SD card.

Note that you will have to create a folder called "Garmin/vehicle"
(note it's 'vehicle' not 'vehicles' as mentioned on the website above)

does it work on the Garmin mobile XT? I'm using Garmin XT on my Nokia 5800 music edition. i downloaded the Garmin garage it has all the vehicles in it. i unzipped the files into my garmin directory on my memory card but i cant seem to change the icon when garmin mobile XT is running. any help? i'm new to using forums so i dont know how i'll see replies. can you reply to [email protected] thanks

They stopped this last year for Symbian, so good luck for Android. It's quite unlikely.

Garmap for Mobile was the biggest pile of **** i have used for a while........always,always..."network error please try again later"
This was the onboard install version that doesn't have the maps on the SD card.
For some reason it wants to work on differant network settings whatever they were - you can be in the middle of Durban or CT CBD & have fine 3G & still get the "network error please try again later" error.
Bought a proper GPS before i threw my 6k phone out the window.
