Hi all, i have a Nuvi 215w - circa 2008.

I want to update the maps, however there is no micro usb port. It does however have an sd card.

Went to the local Cape Union Mart and the lady behind counter basically scoffed at me for daring to update such clearly antiquated tech. She promptly stated i am better off buying a new unit for R2399 or thereabouts.

Now my question - can the maps be updated and if so, how?

Just drop them on the SD card.

Are you absolutely sure there is no USB connection though? A quick google suggests people simply plug it in and run the Garmin software.

Go to Garmin themselves, and buy the DVD R10 couple years ago. Use the software to move the maps to SD card and purchase the license.

I have never come across a Garmin automotive GPS that doesn't take either a mini-USB or micro USB cable. I'm currently holding a Nuvi 200 that's probably older than the one you have, and it uses a normal mini-USB cable. And it can definitely be updated to the latest South African map.
