Hi,

Seeing that my drum braai is a bit cumbersome for a quick dinner meat prep (yes, I throw on a lot of wood!), I am looking to purchase a gas braai. After reading a lot of threads, I know that everything should be stainless steel and that lava stones help improve the uniformness of the heat, however, I am not sure what brand to go with.

Most of my friends have Weber gas braais and they contend that it's the best device. I do think that, although it might be good, they have to say that because they don't want to be the douchebags that overpaid for no real reason ...

I have found some interesting products from both Jetmaster and Megamaster and would like to know what you guys would recommend?

http://www.megamaster.co.za/product/blaze-400-pro/

Here are my requirements (in no specific order):

  • easy of cleaning
  • hood and temperature gauge
  • quality and longevity
  • rotisserie attachment (optional)
  • price up to R5000

What are your thoughts?

There is only one true ss gas braai and that's a Multibraai.
Made with heavy ss.
They last for years and are low maintenance with none of this nonsense where the knobs melt etc.

I have a 8 year old Jetmaster six burner, brilliant and spares are easily to get hold of when something does break or get a bit worn.

Can I dump lava stones on any of these or is this necessary?

Like web sed, Jetmaster is an excellent investment. Not as pricy as Weber and quality is excellent. Spares and accessories are easily found and the service from the local agents has been really, really good.

EDIT: I have a 6 burner with a side burner for pots and things which I bought in 2008 when load shedding first started. I was worried about possible mocking that it wouldn't be a real braai. However the ability to be braaing inside of 5 minutes with little notice is awesome. When the mates realise how quick and easy it is, they soon change tune.

I am not familiar with Megamaster gas braais. What I do know is the quality of their potjie pots are below par..

So Weber is rubbish?
I don't think so - I've had a Weber Q for the last 8+ years. In that time it's been sitting outside, exposed to the sea air, and to date I've only had to replace the burner once.

I have a chef gas braai, came with the house 2 years ago, also very good quality.

Thank you everyone for your contributions! Here are my preliminary considerations:

- Jetmaster does not keep their website up-to-date and don't get back to messages left on Facebook. For anyone reading this, they DO NOT have a branch at Canal Walk anymore.
- Weber are not the only company with a steep price tag ;)
- For every good review there is at least one negative one on Hello Peter.

I nearly bought a Megamaster Blaze 300 Elite (R3700) at Builders Warehouse but they were out of stock.
I still want to see a Jetmaster first hand.

Gasicus resurrecticus!

Was looking at gas braais yesterday and the salesman kinda pushed med towards the Chef ones (not Chad o Chef): https://chef.co.za. I see somebody mentioned it above as well.

The quality looks good, 304 stainless steel all round and is a "high pressure" gas braai meaning it burns hotter than similarly priced Webers etc. Burners look very solid as well.

Anybody here have one of these and care to comment?

Specifically: http://www.chef.co.za/gas-braais-si...hef-nitro-braai/P24-chef-nitro-braai-3-burner

NOTE: I own a Weber Q (electric) and we'll aware of it's durability and don't worry: I'll burn wood as well.
