Gas Heaters ...

Don't open valve fully....1/8 of a turn till you hear a slight woof is perfect.

1/8 turn? 0.o The instruction manuals all say 1.5 turns and no more (because there's a risk if it's fully opened that it could get jammed). The regulator will see to it that there isn't any wasted gas.

Sorry to revive a dead topic but I have a Cadac gas heater since 3 weeks.

How long are you 9 kg gas canisters lasting ?

I've finished mine in 3 weeks and find is strange...

Depends on panel usage , and either Kilowatt hours or Megajoule per hour rating of heater. Most average 1.4 kWh or 5.04 Megajoules per hour (1kWh - 3.6MJ)

I always estimate roughly 90 hours of usage utilising 1 panel on the heater.

9 Kg bottle roughly 17.64 LPG litres of gas liquid (1Kg = 1.96 LPG litres)

LPG litres to MJ - 1L = 25MJ ( 17.64 x 9L = 441MJ )
441 MJ divided by 5.04 MJ/h = 87.5 hours

LPG litres to kW - 1L = 6.9Kw (17.64 x 9L = 121.71Kw )
121.71 divided by 1.4kWh = 86.94 hours

Round off both amounts to 90 hours of usage.

Anyone experience this issue? I can't for the life of me get panel 1 to fire but the two either side are working. Panel 1 worked once on first use.

The rubber washer on the bullnose gave in a few years back, so after changing gas bottles and firing it up, flames start shooting out by the connection. Not sure how much I time I had to get something, I used my bare hand to turn off the valve. I got a light burn, but nothing permanent. I now keep a welding glove near every gas appliance, so that I can quickly switch/turn off the gas. The replacement washer was only a few rands, R5 I think.

I still use the same BOSCH gas heater and it just works

The gas pipe connecting to the bottle is not even showing signs of cracks yet the 3 x DeLonghi i bought a few years ago needed replacement.

What about a gas fire Place or fireplace effect heater?

I don't want to do fancy installations, flues or certificates
The problem with gas is the hassle of replacing it.

Stoves are fine because you're using it at most 60-90 mins a day. You only need to replace the tank every few months. Heaters stay on for much longer...

Its a schlep. Having two tanks is better, then at least you always have one on standby. But taking the tank out etc a pain.

Got a barely used Megamaster gas heater in excellent condition for R500 today. Not a bad price.
