Already feeling nauseous with horror-filled anticipation. Is it as horrific as it sounds? As part of the prep one has to use a enema :wtf:, but I can't seem to see how long one has to hold it in for?

No enema required. At least not in my case. Just drink as much water as possible, cleans the system better (in conjunction with the medicine given to do that).

Dehydration headache is the worst part of it for me. Really, drink as much water as you can before you have to fast.

But overall it isn't that bad, you're under anaesthetic after all.

I had a local anaesthetic gastroscopy once, it was cool to be checking the insides of my stomach on a screen. Just makes you gag - obviously.

Didn't they give you that sachets to drink that gives you the shytes?

Don't worry about the colonoscopy, the worse part is the shytes you get the day before from the meds to clean the system. They put you under for it so you don't even have any discomfort after. The Gastroscopy though... Damn that doesn't sound or look pleasant. Good luck!

I always pray that they do the gastroscopy first. :D

Well if you're out they could do both at the same time, I'd imagine it would shorten the amount of time your concious of the uncomfortable feeling.

Best of luck to the OP, hope they don't find anything too worrying.

I certainly hope I am unconscious for the procedure. There is no way I will be able to swallow that gadget.

Ah eish ooh....good luck, hope it all goes ok :). Report back tomorrow night.

Sterkte! Hope it is less horrid than you are expecting and that it is over sooner than you are expecting!

What exactly were the precursors to you knowing you needed these procedures?

I had a gastroscopy done 2-3 years ago and it was ok. The only annoyance was the amnesia afterwards. They sedated me, so did not watch the procedure unfold on the screen. As for colonoscopy, have not done - but there are videos on youtube of people who have gone through it, who speak about their experiences. Very informative, mostly funny.

Good luck.

Since they will be doing both I assume you will be under. Have anyone ever had a colonoscopy while awake? I don't think so. That would be very awkward. maybe just call the hospital to put your mind at ease they will tell you for sure. :D
