Gathering support for local Rift server request

250ms?

use a sat 3 isp and you can play at 170-200ms depending on your location.

But ya doubt they will host one, could not get a wow one, and wow have a much bigger fanbase.

170ms is still nowhere near what a local server feels like. Trust me I've played from Europe several times and its just wonderful.

We have nothing to lose, if they say no then so be it.

With regards to WoW: yes there is a much bigger fanbase which has capped out and is starting to decay. Rift is the underdog, and underdogs are more willing to take other steps to try and attract more users.

yep remember good old savortex days, that was nice :P

though you probably want that latency for pvp, yes there is s,a players that does good in pvp but not allot of them, as find i can easy out dmg a eu player in raids etc, don't have much problems on the raiding side.

I have just recently started playing Rift, and I'm enjoying the experience so far (especially the graphics).

I don't like being pessimistic but I feel I need to highlight a few facts about having a local Rift Server.

1. User base
We don't have such a large user base as in other countries, and you'd have to devide it by the 2 factions found on the game.

2. Bandwidth
Unfortunately they will have to consider what it costs to host a local server in SA, I'm under the impression that our hosting bandwidth is more expensive then overseas. If its only local, they will still think about international bandwidth for upkeep of the server.

These points might have an influence on pricing of the subscription.

3. Cross Realm.(Shard)
Not entirely sure about this, haven't spent a lot of time on the game, but if the other realms still have high latencies from here, it would make no difference if there was a local server.

Oh, btw, what server do you guys play on? I cant find an SA guild and would like to join one.

2) The big ISPs in SA host all kinds of gaming servers, and all of them for free afaik. They certainly aren't asking the users to pay, and similarly I don't think they are asking the developers to pay. Remember bandwidth within SA is very cheap, and for an ISP these days even International bandwidth is cheap.

3) It would still make a difference for day to day things. The awesome thing is that it already has cross realm play, so even if we move to a local SA server which might seem deserted at times you can still join in on any other server. However if your guild runs something it will be completely local and playable as it was intended.

We play on Icewatch EU, not sure which server has the most SA players.
