Seems like this e-tool system is ready to go in a month or so. All I hear on radio is get your e-tag fitted.
I would like to have some clearance on some things.

1- Do you really need the e-tag?
What if your not a driver who is just passing through Gauteng, how will they charge you then?

2- I think I read you don't need the e-tag, if this is true how do they charge the costs to you?

3- If so what is the real purpose of getting an e-tag, I heard its because you get discounts.

4- Where are the damn prices?

5- Have seen pictures of those e-tags? I've just seen illustrations but for the fact you have to have this damn device hanging in your window

6- When is the official date of launch?

When will the the option to purchase an e-tag expire? or will we be able to purchase an e-tag after the tolling system has been put into action?

Johannesburg - The SA National Roads Agency (Sanral) was contacting customers on Friday to reverse administration charges deducted erroneously from e-tag accounts this week, the company said.

"The charges that have occurred were levied erroneously. This is a result of failure to deactivate them now and reactivating those once tolling starts. We have now deactivated the charges," Sanral said in a statement on Thursday.

Account registration began on November 7 with registered users depositing R50 into their accounts to create an initial balance with tolling only beginning in February.

"For those customers who elected to have their statements posted, the specified service fee is R5. The existence of these charges [are] in the terms and conditions, available at point of purchase for e tags and e toll website," said the statement.

I've been using an e-Tag since forever on the toll roads on the N1 North heading towards Polokwane, and the N4 west towards Rustenburg, simply for ease of use as I drive those roads every day, but I will likely just remove it from my car if they decide to toll that way too. There are existing toll booths already, so I doubt they will expand there...for now.

Technically you don't need to remove your Bakwena e-tag ... it will work on the GFIP gantries but you need to register it on the Sanral system before they can deduct tolls from your bank account ... if you're really concerned about it maybe it is better to remove the damn thing, I don't know?

I won't be getting an etag. As someone said, it's an idiot tax.

Why not buy an e-tag? Lots of reasons but the main one being that if they want my money they are bloody hell going to pay to send me a letter or invoice to try and get it.

EDIT: And there is the chance that their little camera doesn't work or their back office screws up and I won't have to pay. Why would I fit a device to make it easier for them? It's not like I use those roads on a daily basis anyway.

i heard that all road works need to be completed before tolling is allowed to commence , is this true?

If only. That would be a much better stalling tactic than the DA, Cosatu and whoever else could ever come up with.

They can go whistle nursery rhymes.

Not a F&^&^# chance I am buying one.

DONT BUY ONE!!!! The road money has been stolen. Do not pay again.

I already bought a brand new set of number plates copied from a Ahole that hogged the highway traffic, let him pay.
